The Radar and Advanced Targeting line of business, based in Edinburgh, is a leading global provider of advanced radar, laser, and infrared countermeasure systems. Within our dynamic team, we are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Quality Team Lead within the Airborne AESA Radar sector.

What You’ll Do As The Quality Team Lead

As the Quality Team Lead, you will play a pivotal role in managing quality assurance activities within the Airborne AESA Radar sector. Your key responsibilities will include

  • Risk & Opportunity Management Identify and manage project-specific risks, threats, and opportunities, ensuring they are mitigated or leveraged effectively to support the programme’s success.
  • Programme Assurance Develop and agree on Project Assurance Plans (PAP) that outline project assurance activities, aligned with risk, opportunity, and improvement objectives within the Programme’s Operational Framework.
  • Leading Assurance Teams Guide and mentor assurance teams to ensure the delivery of programme and Integrated Product Team (IPT) objectives.
  • Continuous Improvement Implement quality and assurance function improvement plans across all phases of the Programme and Product Lifecycle, applying best practices to enhance product quality and team performance.
  • Coaching & Mentoring Support and mentor team members, fostering a culture of quality excellence and professional growth within the Programme.
  • Influencing Quality Culture Utilize your interpersonal skills to positively shape quality behaviors at both the individual and team levels, ensuring a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement Represent the Quality function at senior levels with Programme Customers and Suppliers, building strong relationships and ensuring alignment with quality objectives.
  • Project Milestones & Reporting Ensure successful achievement of project assurance milestones across the Programme and Product Lifecycle. Provide regular reports and data to Programme, Project, and Quality teams to track progress and drive improvements.
  • Cost Reduction & Conformance Lead efforts to reduce sector non-conformance costs through the application of root cause analysis and corrective action plans, ensuring that corrective measures reduce cost implications and enhance programme performance.

What We Need From You

To be successful in this role, you must bring the following qualifications and experience

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Academic Background Ideally, a Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or relevant experience within Defence Electronics or a similarly complex industry.
  • Quality Management Knowledge Proven experience in applying quality standards such as AS9100/ISO9001 and driving continuous improvement within a complex engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Quality Tools Expertise Strong knowledge and experience in using quality tools like Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA), Pattern Fault Lifecycle, Process Mapping, Verification, and First Article Inspections (FAI).
  • Analytical Thinking Ability to analyze complex data, draw actionable insights, and present practical solutions that align with business goals and drive improvements.
  • Collaborative & Interpersonal Skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across all functions and engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Customer & Supplier Management Experience working directly with customers and suppliers, ensuring quality expectations and requirements are met.
  • Team Leadership Demonstrated experience in guiding, mentoring, and supporting teams, with a focus on developing talent and fostering a culture of excellence.
