Quantity Surveyor – Major Projects | Thames Water

As part of our Major Projects Delivery Office, you’ll work on high-profile, multi-million-pound projects that drive innovation and sustainability. From pre- to post-contract stages, you’ll be instrumental in delivering new builds and significant developments across our water and wastewater networks.

This role is a key contributor to Thames Water’s Capital Delivery Programme and Turnaround Plan, ensuring efficient project execution and cost management.

What you’ll be doing as a Quantity Surveyor

• Monthly Cost Forecasting/Reporting: Ensure cost management against the budget, highlighting commercial issues early, including reporting on contingency/risk.​
• Estimating: Understand Business Plan budgets and their make-up for cost comparison purposes; compare estimates for affordability against the Business plan; support the Managing (or Senior) Quantity Surveyor by providing insight into estimates produced by others.
• Procurement Support: Obtain and review quotes for works and services; support with the main contract document preparation, including development of pricing schedules; support the commercial evaluation and negotiation of tenders.
• Contract Management: Support the Project Manager with commercial/contract management of consultants and contractors; support contract administration, including responding to contractual communications, monitoring/recording changes, risk management and performance management. Review final accounts and support the Senior Quantity Surveyor with the resolution of claims; record and communicate contractual lessons learnt.​
• Orders and Payments: Ensure value for money, review monthly payment applications and invoices, and ensure that payments are made on time and according to the Contract.​
• Governance: Ensure we always maintain financial governance; provide commercial input to financial and contract governance proposals.

This role will be based on a hybrid basis at Clearwater Court; you must be on-site 3-4 days a week as the business requires.

Thirty-six hours a week, Monday to Friday.

It would be ideal for the successful candidate to hold a driver's license and have access to transportation.

What you should bring to the role

• Being educated at a degree level and chartered (or working towards) in Quantity Surveying or equivalent is required for this role.
• Knowledge of Civil Engineering projects in a pre- and post-contract environment.
• Hold your ground and offer reasoned advice in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of commercial and contractual contracts with an in-depth understanding of construction contracts, e.g. NEC.
• Understand the costs and risks associated with the delivery of projects.
