Role: Radiology Department Assistant

Shift Times: 7.5 hour shifts between 08:00 and 20:00
Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract (Maternity Cover for 1 year)

We’re looking for a Radiology Department Assistant to join our Paediatric team at The Portland Hospital, currently rated “Good” by the CQC. The role will be based at the Portland Hospital Ultrasound department.
The Portland Hospital Imaging department has undergone an amazing transformation resulting in a bespoke state of the art Paediatric Radiology Department. This includes X-ray, Fluoroscopy, IR/Cath lab, CT, MRI and the innovative EOS Edge. Our team is comprised of dedicated and knowledgeable radiographers working in a multidisciplinary team to offer exceptional patient care and outcomes.
The Portland Hospital is the only private hospital in the UK dedicated to the healthcare of women and children. As the only fully private maternity hospital in the UK, delivering over 1,600 babies a year, we place great importance on providing safe and high-quality care for expectant mothers. Both consultant-led and midwife-led maternity care is available, and our aim is to provide you with all the support you need during pregnancy, childbirth and beyond. Women’s health issues are treated by a team of 40 consultants, supported by nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and counsellors, with an emphasis on privacy and dignity.
As a Radiology Department Assistant you will have the opportunity to:
- Assist with patients and procedures, Chaperoning Ultrasound lists.
- Help maintain the smooth running of the department, assist sonographers, admin staff and doctors as required.
- Provide a reception/administrative service to support the department, ensuring quality services are provided to patients and Consultants.
- Deliver a customer focused high quality service to our patients and service users, striving for and maintaining the highest standards.
Principle Duties
- Meet and greet patients, visitors, consultants and staff and deal with their enquiries.
- Answer telephone enquiries, referring where appropriate and organise immediate and future appointment booking
- To ensure the smooth running of all clinics.
- Organise departmental workload including changing patients and dealing with all necessary paperwork
- To register patients accurately
- To assist in maintaining the tidiness and cleanliness of your area of work, in particular the reception and office areas. This must be in line with infection control policies.
- Organise refreshments for patients when required
- To assist the sonographers and consultants in the department as required.
- Make bookings for appointments
- To assist with all admin processes relevant to the department
- Demonstrate a caring and supportive manner to patients and relatives
- Conversant with computer system
- Enter patient details on the computer and produce the correct paperwork for each patient examination.
- Update and maintain knowledge of hospital services and facilities that are relevant to the department including
- Put patient charges onto the computer system where necessary.
- Monitor and maintain stationary stock levels.
- Assist with procedures as directed by the consultants and sonographers
- Ensure that office equipment is maintained in good working order and report faults where necessary.

- Hospital-based experience as a Healthcare Assistant/Radiology Assistant is essential
