As a Recycling and Waste Advisor you will be a face of the council, providing guidance and support to communities of Kirklees to deliver the council’s environmental strategies which include increasing the quality and quantity of household recycling and reducing household waste. The Recycling and Waste collections will be changing and improving with new “Simpler Recycling” legislation over the next few years which will impact on the recycling collections and advice we provide.
You will provide support and participate in team initiatives to influence changes in behaviour and maximise opportunities to improve service delivery.
Your main responsibilities as Recycling and Waste Advisor will include:
- Responding to enquiries in relation to the recycling and waste collection services.
- Planning daily visits for households requiring assistance with matters related to household waste and recycling.
- Providing advice and support to householders to influence positive changes in attitudes towards efficient and effective use of their bins.
- Visiting schools and other educational establishments, including other youth activities/groups, to deliver talks, workshops, and activities to support waste and recycling, reduce and reuse awareness. (Some of which will require support outside of normal working hours.)
- Routine monitoring of recycling bins, working closely with Refuse Collectors on problematic areas with low/poor recycling rates.
- Working with internal services & partners to improve recycling in hard-to-reach areas including joint service clean-ups or areas.
- Working within a designated area of Kirklees North or South to support and increase recycling and reduction of general waste. As part of a team.
Our Next Recycling And Waste Advisors Will Ideally Have
- Proven literacy and numeracy skills
- Experience with MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint. Or Ads-Hoc Systems.
- The ability to interpret, judge, assist, and support in relation to the proper use of the green and brown recycling bins.
- Knowledge of waste disposal and recycling practices/incentives across Kirklees.
- The ability to carry out physically demanding work such as the job demands, e.g., bin collection and removals, and walking for considerable periods of time whilst working outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
- A Flexible approach to work, willingness to work across the Kirklees area.
As regular travel (across Kirklees) is a major part of this job, it is essential that you hold a full and valid driving license. You will also be required to undertake a van driving assessment as part of your induction process.
