Role Summary
The Regional Technical Superintendent shall provide technical support to all facets of the business region as an extension of the Corporate Technical Department.
Reporting to the Operations Manager (or VP Operations), the Regional Technical Superintendent shall provide multi-disciplined technical support for various departments within the region such as Operations, QHSE, Supply Chain, and Marketing. The role shall also functionally report to the Corporate Technical Manager to ensure all Corporate initiatives and directives are being met allowing for standardisation across the Borr fleet.
This is a full-time onshore role based within the region, with regular and frequent visits to rigs and remote locations to fulfil role expectations.
Responsibilities
- Regional focal point for technical support utilising own knowledge or seeking information from Corporate Technical Department (SMEs) and external resources as necessary to provide satisfactory responses.
- Drive fleet compliance with Borr Drilling’s technical policies, standards and publications ensuring close out of any actions as necessary.
- Drive initiatives to ensure continual improvement in the systems and processes employed within Borr Drilling in relation to technical issues.
- Regional focal point for equipment failures, breakdowns, and non-productive time (NPT) incidents on the rigs leading investigations with a pro-active approach to determine root causes and to prevent re-occurrence with reporting to the Corporate Technical Department as directed.
- Assist in upgrades and modifications to the rigs, ensuring compliance with the Management of Change policy and overseeing suitable project management of the upgrades/modifications in accordance with Borr Drilling policies and procedures.
- Regional focal point for providing user support for the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) system and provision of training as required.
- Support Rig Managers in creation of budgets by providing technical feedback on proposals.
- Technical support for regional Marketing (tenders), Supply Chain & QHSE
- Liaise, as directed, with relevant external parties on technical issues e.g. Class, Flag, shelf state regulators, clients, third party vendors, OEMs etc.
- Assist the rig’s operational teams in ensuring technical compliance with Class, Flag, shelf state and contractual requirements for each rig.
- Perform technical interviews for offshore maintenance teams as deemed necessary.
- Support Rig Management with planning and execution of efficient SPS work scopes.
- Any other duties as assigned by management.
- Communicates internally with Employees, Co-Workers, Manager, Regional Operations Teams (onshore and offshore), Heads of Department and Management Team.
- Communicates externally with equipment vendors, service suppliers, as well as Classification and Regulatory Bodies.
- Provides multi-disciplined technical support to all facets of Borr Drilling as required.
- The position predominantly supports the Regional Management team, with support and regular interaction with the Corporate Technical Department and has no direct reports.
- The role shall be expected to make decisions on various technical matters that will influence, or may change, the operating principles of the rig fleet.
- Office based role which requires sound technical expertise with the ability to work under limited supervision and where problems can, at times, be non-routine and need complex analysis or interpretation.
- The role will require travel overseas to regional locations (both onshore and offshore) as and when required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Extensive oil & gas experience in an engineering/technical capacity, preferably in an offshore maintenance based role.
- Relevant engineering or equivalent technical qualification desirable.
- Good working knowledge of equipment and systems on drilling rigs from either a mechanical or electrical (or equivalent) background.
- Previous experience working as a member of an offshore maintenance team desirable but not essential.
- Experience and knowledge of maintenance systems and technical documentation requirements.
- Experience with Classification, Flag state and shelf state rules and requirements.
- Well-developed problem-solving skills and techniques to identify root causes and potential solutions.
- Project management/rig upgrade experience is desirable.
- Possess strong personnel and administrative skills.
- Ability to liaise with drilling rigs’ technical teams and rig management teams.
- Ability to lead teams and liaise effectively with external parties (client, OEM, vendors, regulators etc).
- High levels of self-motivation with the ability to work under pressure and outside of normal working hours.
