Cancer Research UK are looking for an experienced Research Events Manager to join our Research information, communication and engagement team.
Cancer Research UK exists to beat cancer. We support around4,000 researchers, doctors and nurses in 90 different institutions across the UK and internationally, and in 2023/2024 we spent £399m on research.
Our research events are one of the most effective avenues to engage with the scientific community, designed to showcase cutting edge science, bring together an international community and facilitate collaborations. As a Research Events Manager you will be responsible for delivering a number of high-profile events across our strategic priority areas, working closely with scientific leads to develop new and innovative programmes to drive engagement in these areas
What will I be doing?
- Manage the development and implementation of our established annual events for the Research and Innovation (R&I) Directorate
- Provide expert guidance and support to teams across R&I when delivering events for the research community.
- Oversee all event logistics and operational planning for assigned events, including programme development, delegate communication, speaker liaison, poster arrangements and sourcing venue, catering and travel.
- Work closely with the Marketing and Communications Team to draft accurate and targeted marketing materials
- Lead multiple steering groups concurrently to develop relevant and engaging programmes with expert speakers, adhering to project deadlines.
- Negotiate and project manage key suppliers including venues, caterers, print suppliers and other agencies.
- Promote and deliver sponsorship activity for all assigned events.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships, working collaboratively with scientific leads, internal and external stakeholders, partners and groups to ensure the success of the events.
- Establish and Liaise with speakers and external stakeholders, providing expert advice and guidance.
What are you looking for?
- Experience in the delivery of scientific events, large scale conferences or exhibitions would be an advantage
- Strong experience of stakeholder management, including speakers, programme committee and sponsors.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to network and maintain good working relationships
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to help inform the research community about our work in timely, relevant and targeted ways.
- Solutions focused with strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to be practical and resourceful
- Very organised with strong time management skills, including the ability to prioritise and multi-task
- A self-starter able to perform independently, as well as part of a team
- A confident and proactive attitude
- Willingness to work outside normal office hours. Some events require weekend work and travel around the UK, and potentially internationally (c2 per year)
