IESI will create new opportunities for the University, key partners and stakeholders, and for marginalised and excluded communities both in Sunderland and across the UK. With a transparent and practice-led approach that encourages partnership and engagement IESI will be enabling and additive to the existing portfolio of economic and social inclusion programmes and work that are already ongoing in the region.

About the role


The Research Fellow and Impact Lead role at the Institute for Economic and Social Inclusion (IESI) is a key lead position with a significant impact on the University's influence. IESI, a centre of excellence in economic and social inclusion, aims to create opportunities for the University, partners, stakeholders, and marginalized communities.


You will collaborate with the Head of IESI to link academic strengths with external demands, developing high-impact projects and positioning the University strategically. Facilitating engagement with funders, government bodies, and corporate organisations is essential. You'll manage relationships with funding partners, play a lead role in policy and strategy development, and represent the University on partnership bodies. Engaging with partners, corporate bodies, and SMEs to identify opportunities for collaborations is part of the role. Contributing to high-quality applied research aligned with the Institute's themes and publishing papers for REF submissions are key responsibilities.


This role offers a unique opportunity to lead impactful projects, promoting economic and social inclusion regionally and nationally. You'll play a pivotal role in IESI's success and the University's commitment to making a meaningful difference.
