Reservoir Safety Engineer
(must be appointed to Supervising Engineers (England and Wales)
Full Time - Permanent (We’re open to discussing flexible working)
Salary Band – up to £71,000 + excellent benefits
Location – South-East England covering primarily our Essex and Suffolk operating areas with travel to our reservoirs in our northern operating area.
About The Role
We have made good progress in delivering improvements to our reservoir safety operations over recent years and we have an amazing opportunity to become a Reservoir Safety Engineer supporting our Northumbrian Water and Essex & Suffolk Water regions. We are looking for you to make further improvements and to support with the development of long-term strategies for our reservoir safety operations, considering the Reservoirs Act 1975 and the Floods and Water Management Act 2010.
As a member of the Reservoir Safety Team, you will support NWG as undertaker of the current portfolio of Large Raised Reservoirs where NWG has ultimate responsibility for the safety of the reservoir. We add value working collaboratively with our NWG colleagues and partners to manage the safety of our dams, dam safety related infrastructure, and compliance with the Reservoirs Act 1975. You will provide expert technical support to our internal teams regarding potential or actual Reservoir Act compliance and reservoir safety issues. Our approach emphasises innovation and collaboration as one team, working diligently to reduce the risk of failures, protect communities, the environment and improve compliance. Through effective surveillance, monitoring, examination, and inspection, we strive to be national leader in achieving and maintaining the highest standards of dam safety.
This role has also been defined as a safety or security critical role and as a condition of a formal offer of employment you’ll be required to undergo a drug and alcohol test.
Prospective employees and agency workers in defined safety and security critical roles will be required to undertake a drug and alcohol test after the job offer has been made. This will be prior to or within four weeks of their start date.
Prospective employees and agency workers who fail a pre-employment urine drug screen will have their sample analysed by the Company appointed laboratory as a matter of course. Failing a pre-employment drugs or alcohol test may lead to the job offer being revoked
About You

You’ll build and maintain positive working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders. You should have excellent communication skills and a strong ability to influence decision making at all levels.
Ideally you will be able to demonstrate effective project management of civil engineering projects taking into consideration Health & Safety, Company, and Legislative procedures and budget constraints.
The position requires you to be appointed to the Supervising Engineers (England and Wales) joint panel. To be successful within the role you will need to have detailed working knowledge of the Reservoirs Act 1975 and of knowledge of dam construction, monitoring and maintenance.
Writing and interpreting technical reports is essential within the role so we would like for you to be confident in this space. You’ll also be able to use relevant Microsoft packages.
