Are you an experienced NHS risk professional looking for a high-impact role in a supportive and innovative team? The Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust is offering an exciting opportunity to join our award-winning Corporate Governance Team as Risk Manager (Band 7).

Working alongside the Assistant Director of Corporate Governance & Risk to lead the Trust’s enterprise risk management portfolio. This is a strategic role with national influence, offering you the opportunity to work closely with senior leaders across all directorates, embedding risk awareness and resilience into the heart of our services.

You Will:

  • Lead the implementation and embedding of a new electronic risk management system.
  • Deliver high-quality education and training across the organisation.
  • Provide expert advice, assurance, and support at all levels.
  • Influence strategic decisions through intelligent, proactive risk reporting.

You will contribute to national governance networks, playing an important part in shaping good practice across NHS Wales and beyond.

You Will:

Lead across the strategic environment, providing organisational leadership; promoting a positive culture of governance, compliance and risk awareness.

Work collaboratively across the Corporate Governance team, with operational teams and corporate directorates to lead risk management and assurance programmes.

Implement and maintain systems for risk management and take overall responsibility for preparing risk assessments.

Drive delivery of the assurance and risk agenda to achieve organisational objectives, delivery of safe and effective services, and compliance with legislation and standards.

Work closely with the Assistant Director of Corporate Governance & Risk to jointly lead on the development/implementation of a comprehensive risk management training programme, to ensure appropriate levels of competence around risk management exists and is embedded across all areas.

Develop and maintain strong, influential relationships with internal and external stakeholders to provide robust mechanisms of assurance that risk management is embedded and evidenced in WAST becoming a trusted strategic partner in NHS Wales and system influencer in the risk management arena.

Be a positive role model and have a broad knowledge and technical understanding of risk management and assurance, have excellent communication and organisation skills and the ability to work on their own initiative as well as part of a team.

In line with the Trust’s Starting Salary Procedure, all applicants will start at the bottom of the band for the position applied for, but can apply for a higher salary if they have previous experience relevant to the position.
