Brief Description

To produce cost effective and efficient rosters for nominated employees compliant with the relevant operational standards in line with current rostering principles and competency requirements. Monitor the competency database to manage future safety critical competency expiries.

About The Role (External)

Main Responsibilities:

  • Create and publish staff rosters using the Corporate Rostering Tool in accordance with National Rostering Principles, company policies and standards.
  • Plan weekly and daily rosters that account for staff being sick, on leave, in training, or attending meetings
  • Handle last-minute roster changes by contacting affected staff and managers, getting verbal confirmation when needed
  • Track and manage leave records for all staff and help create annual leave rosters
  • Schedule staff for medical appointments and interviews
  • Arrange roster coverage for training, courses, and safety certification renewals
  • Keep track of staff competencies to make sure all shifts are covered by properly certified employees
  • Check roster data before and after payroll processing to ensure accuracy, and submit any late changes
  • Monitor staff fatigue levels and alert managers to any concerns
  • Provide data and information for required reports


Essential Qualities

  • Excellent knowledge of national rostering principles
  • Previous successful experience in prioritising workloads and delivering to deadlines
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Previous successful experience of analysing data and producing reports
  • Understanding of conditions of service applicable to rostering
  • Understanding of roster systems
  • Demonstrable ability to accurately manage data and attention to detail
  • Previous successful experience of working in a team and engaging with virtual team members
  • Able to demonstrate good general IT skills

  • Have experience with roster management and rostering systems
  • Can manage multiple priorities and deliver to deadlines
  • Have strong problem-solving skills to tackle any roster scheduling challenges
  • Are friendly and approachable with excellent people skills
  • Communicate clearly and enjoy working with different people
  • Are comfortable working with data and computer systems
  • Can find creative solutions quickly when plans change
  • Are willing to travel to different locations as part of your regular duties


This role is vital to keeping our railway operations running efficiently and safely. You will play an important part in supporting the well-being of our staff while ensuring all operational needs are met.
