About Marshmallow
We build financial products that accelerate the economic freedom for people who move across borders. We started with car insurance — insuring over a million drivers — and we’re scaling beyond. Tens of millions of people move countries each year, facing overlooked financial challenges. Our future is in building financial products around their needs to positively impact their lives.
How We Work
We’re really proud of the culture we’ve created. We push for progress every day, because we know that we’ll only hit big milestones by taking lots of smaller steps. We’re always open to helping our team mates, sharing our ideas, experience and knowledge to solve problems together. We take risks, think creatively and experiment relentlessly to meet our customer’s needs, and never pass blame when things go wrong. We encourage people at all levels to take ownership of their work, and to be bold in challenging how we do things. Everyone has a voice and the opportunity to make an impact.
And autonomy and ownership are only possible with clear direction. That’s why we collaborate to do in-depth planning twice a year, and make sure we leave with clear goals and objectives that flow from top to bottom. To make sure we’re as aligned as possible across functions, most of our work rolls up into three tribes; Acquisition, Retention & Claims. Each tribe has multiple teams embedded in it, working cross-functionally to do great work.
We’re so excited for all of the challenges up ahead, and we need more people to help us tackle them! If life at Marshmallow sounds like it could be for you, explore our Culture Handbook to find out more.
Analytics Engineering at Marshmallow
At Marshmallow, we back those who step outside the norm. Our mission is to become the
all in one financial shop for people who move to the UK, and we’re building a platform that enables the launch of
multiple distinctive products beyond car insurance — from multi-car plans to future offerings like car finance.
Data is at the heart of this transformation. In one of the world’s most advanced insurance markets, our Data Engineering team is critical to scaling faster, smarter, and more innovatively than legacy competitors. We collaborate across the company, championing a
data-driven, multi-product culture, empowering every team to move faster through
self-service, automation, and real-time insights.
What You’ll Be Doing
Build for a Multi-Product World
- Data Modelling at Scale: Design and maintain scalable, reliable data models that support multiple products and customer journeys, ensuring consistency across insurance, payments, retention, claims, fraud, and upcoming new products like car finance.
- Cross-Domain Collaboration: Partner with product, operations, fraud, claims, retention, and growth teams to design datasets that drive real-time decisions, personalisation, and pricing optimisation for each product line.
Lead, Mentor, and Set Standards
- Champion Modern Best Practices: Act as the subject matter expert for DBT, Snowflake, and Looker, setting the gold standard for how multi-product data models are built, tested, and optimised.
- Coach Across the Business: Enable analysts, scientists, and engineers to self-serve effectively by building curated data layers and reusable tools.
Enable Fast, Autonomous Growth
- Optimise for Speed and Cost: Tune our data platform to deliver faster queries, lower cloud costs, and seamless onboarding of new products — key to enabling rapid product experimentation and scale.
- Data as a Product: Treat our data models as products themselves — reliable, observable, and optimised for customer impact across insurance, payments, loyalty, and future offerings.
Solve Hard Problems
- Own the Full Stack: Gain deep expertise in the full data platform (AWS, Snowflake, DBT, Looker, orchestration frameworks) to deliver safe, reliable solutions at pace.
- Automation & Efficiency: Build with a bias towards automation and reusability, essential for scaling multiple product lines without a linear increase in complexity or cost.
Who You Are
- Technical Expertise: Deep experience with production-grade ETLs, data warehousing, and robust data modelling. You are highly proficient in SQL and deeply understand Snowflake architecture.
- Tooling Mastery: Hands-on experience with DBT, Looker (or similar BI tools), and orchestration frameworks like Airflow or AWS Step Functions.
- Mindset: You’re proactive, customer-obsessed, and see data as a product. You think scalability, self-service, and platform-first.
- Collaborative Leader: You enjoy partnering with analysts, engineers, and product teams to deliver value quickly and iteratively.
- Bonus Points: Experience with Python, Java, or cloud infrastructure (AWS); background in insurance, fintech, or regulated industries; excitement about building a multi-product ecosystem.
