This position in the FTSE Russell Data and Distribution team will be critical in a new company wide data initiative. The role requires a Data Engineer to identify, collect and interpret essential business data across the organization. The role requires a confident self-starter who can independently reach out to teams and individuals to create these data artifacts. The FTSE Russell data platform is an Iceberg based Lakehouse running in AWS. The core development language is Python. For an individual to thrive in this role expert levels of experience are required in AWS, Python and Data in general.
The responsibilities of the individual in this position include:
- Work with the technical lead and product managers to identify potential data sources
- Collaborate with business users in the organization to first understand the data and plan how import it into the Lakehouse
- With business users understand how to refine and collate the data into meaningful outputs using code and config where necessary
- Create PowerBI or other reports on the data to demonstrate the current stage of ingestion
The successful candidate will have extensive demonstrable skills and experiences including the following:
- Significant Python experience ideally with pySpark and pyIceberg
- Expert level data and SQL skills with an eye for perfection
- Good exposure and familiarity with AWS components particular Athena and Glue
- Self-starter able to work on multiple streams of work in parallel
- Exceptional communicator able to translate between requirements between business and technical users
- Any experience with Iceberg and Lakehouse technologies a plus
