Role Responsibilities;

·      To design and develop new concepts and technologies to push the company in to new and a greater variety of business. Design requirements to come from internal and external customer driven specifications in line with the Company’s Design Process. This will involve regular communication with the customer, Engineering and Production to ensure the design specifications are met, quality standards are adhered to, and products are delivered to schedule.

·      To research and keep up to date with new and upcoming technologies and assess their requirements for use within the company. Looking to introduce them into specialised one-off units or integrate them into a large range of products within the portfolio.

·      To have a knowledge of manufacturing, material and process standards. 

·      Have an in-depth knowledge of economic design, savings costs and materials where possible for the given specification. But understand where cost can be spent for customer usability of product aesthetics. This may include cost analysis, prototype manufacture, assembly of mechanical prototypes, environmental testing and type approval testing.

·      To work with the rest of the EMD team, aiding in design work based on findings or previous knowledge, helping the whole department grow.

·      To maintain electro-mechanical design responsibility for nominated products through-out the life cycle of the product. This will entail management of design modifications, creation of variants, dealing with obsolescence and responding to manufacturing queries.

·      To verify and validate own electro-mechanical designs using classical hand calculations, finite element analysis and experimental testing. Reports of findings may be required to record these designs or may need to be presented to potential customers.

·      To produce and register comprehensive mechanical drawings using Autodesk Inventor with associated build instructions, lists of parts and method of assembly.

·      To contribute to the development of new working processes, practices, methods and equipment to improve efficiency levels, reduce costs etc.

·      To accurately maintain product documentation new and existing both for electronic and paper-based records in several different systems that are in operation in the EMD Department.

·      To present comprehensive material and time booking documentation for each project in accordance with the guidelines of the EMD Department and ISO/Company Quality Policies and Procedures.

·      To understand, observe and apply a ‘safety first’ approach at all times, complying with Company policies, procedures and practices relating to Occupational Health & Safety. This includes all provisions in the Sonardyne Safety System (SMS01/SMS02) e.g., completion of Job Safety Analysis (JSA), wearing of PPE, following Safe Working Practice instruction, undertaking H&S training and escalation of any observations of activities or aspects that could adversely impact employees’ health and safety, or others, resulting from personal or Sonardyne work activities.

·     To understand and comply with all Company Policies and Procedures.

 

Essential Skills;

 

·      Strong technical design experience ideally gained from working within subsea equipment design for the Oil and Gas or Defence industries.

·      Design experience gained from over 10 years of relevant work

·      Experienced 3D CAD user (preferably Autodesk Inventor)

·      Practical mechanical engineering skills including relevant experience of prototype assembly and testing.

·      Knowledge and experience of finite element analysis (preferably ANSYS) desirable.

·      Relevant experience of design validation by hand calculation desirable

·      Working knowledge of relevant codes, standards and applicable regulations for subsea product

·      Sector

·      Technical report writing skills
