We are responsible for improving the productivity, efficiency, and happiness of our development teams by crafting and improving tooling, workflows, and processes. You will work closely with engineers across multiple teams to identify problems and bottlenecks, streamline development environments, and enable faster delivery of high-quality software.

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer - Developer Experience to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for improving the developer journey, streamlining workflows, and building tools that empower our engineering teams to deliver high-quality software efficiently. The ideal candidate is a strong technical leader with expertise in React, TypeScript, and Backstage.io, coupled with a proven understanding of cloud platforms like Azure(preferred) or AWS.

Key Responsibilities

Developer Experience Portal

  • Design, build, and maintain the internal developer portal/platform to optimize productivity and enable self-service capabilities.
  • Drive the adoption and customization of Backstage.io as a central hub for inner-sourcing.

Frontend Engineering

  • Develop and maintain scalable and efficient UI components and tooling using React and TypeScript.
  • Advocate and implement best practices for frontend architecture, code quality, and performance.

Cloud Integration

  • Create tools and abstractions that integrate with Azure or AWS cloud environments, improving ease of deployment and observability.
  • Enhance CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (IaC) to support cloud-native development.

Collaboration and Leadership

  • Partner with engineering teams to identify problems and deliver solutions that improve their day-to-day workflows.
  • Mentor and guide junior developers, sharing expertise in React, TypeScript, and cloud technologies.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to ensure alignment with broader organizational goals.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in developer tooling, cloud technologies, and frontend frameworks.
  • Proactively see opportunities to improve the developer experience and our internal platform.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Expertise in Frontend Development:
    • Deep understanding of React and TypeScript, including component design, state management, and testing.
  • Backstage.io Experience:
    • Proven track record of implementing and customizing Backstage.io in production environments.
  • Cloud Knowledge:
    • Strong understanding of cloud platforms, with experience in Azure preferred (AWS also acceptable).
    • Familiarity with Kubernetes, containerization, and cloud-native tools.
  • Problem-Solving:
    • Ability to identify and address developer pain points with innovative solutions.
  • Strong Communication Skills:
    • Adept at collaborating with diverse engineering teams and explaining complex concepts clearly.
Other important skills:

  • Experience with infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Pulumi).
  • Database - PostgreSQL
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools like GitLab CICD.
  • Familiarity with GraphQL and REST APIs.
  • Understanding of observability tools, ideally Datadog.
