NCW seeks to appoint a Senior Finance Officer who will be responsible for maintaining and updating the financial and accounting records of the charity (National Centre for Writing) and the trading subsidiary (NCW Commercial).
The Senior Finance Officer will be a vital member of the NCW team, line managing the Finance Assistant and working closely with the Head of Finance to ensure the smooth running of NCW’s finance function.
Responsibilities
- Generate, process, and post sales invoices, credits, and receipts using Sage Line 50.
- Perform as a purchase ledger, working with the Finance Assistant to process invoices, ensuring they are authorised, coded correctly, and posted.
- Prepare and submit the quarterly VAT return for the commercial company.
- Code and post all nominal ledger journal entries, including pre-payments and accruals.
- Handle occasional cash takings, such as petty cash requirements for NCW events. Ensure receipts are correct, authorised, approved, and reconciliated.
- Perform credit control, dealing with payments and debtors.
- Manage and review staff credit card statements, and work with the team to correctly code, post, and reconciliate outgoings.
- Monitor NCW’s bank accounts daily, perform bank reconciliations, and process all cheque and other payments including BACS.
- Coordinate NCW’s payroll, including preparing payrol, running payroll using Sage software, posting payroll journals, and keeping up to date with all relevant payroll legislation.
- Manage and monitor NCW’s automatic enrolment pension scheme.
- Review, update, and recommend improvements to NCW’s financial controls, procedures, and policies.
- Assist in the preparation of internal reports for budget holders.
- Support the Head of Finance in the preparation for annual statutory audit and reporting
Qualifications and experience
- AAT qualified
- At least two years’ experience in a finance department in a small company or charity
