What you'll be doing


This is a role for a talented professional who has a passion for success and excels at performing detailed financial business analysis and reporting. The role will be at the centre of the 118118 Money business, helping to critique and formulate commercial plans and define financial strategies.


The Senior Analyst is responsible for developing insightful analysis to facilitate performance challenge, identify areas of improvement and to help the senior management team make informed business decisions.


A business partner to all areas of the business but working especially closely within Finance and the Commercial teams, you will support key forward looking business and performance management processes, acting as a financial gatekeeper for commercial initiatives.


Responsible for producing profitability reporting and modelling, you will have a deep understanding of pricing within Financial Services and understand the key principles that underpin ROA (Return on Asset) reporting.


Comfortable diving into interest income calculations, Cost of Funds, Impairment and variable cost inputs, you will have the confidence to challenge existing methodologies and assumptions.


You will oversee production of various committee reporting packs and have the ability to get into the detail and tell the story behind the numbers.

Key Responsibilities and Objectives:


  • Development of the FP&A function – assist the Director of FP&A in shaping the function to support the business through an exciting period of growth. Help to identify processes, systems and MI that could improve on-going business performance.
  • Challenge commercial assumptions – provide a level of critique to Commercial business plans and assumptions, acting as a financial gatekeeper for the profitability of the business. This will include existing customer management activity (e.g. reprice) as well as other customer centric initiatives (e.g. introduction of new forbearance tools and expected impact on risk/revenue).
  • Profitability Analysis – own and enhance profitability and ROA analysis that can be used by the senior management team to make informed business decisions. Gain a deep understanding of the key drivers of profitability within the business, including the various costs incurred.
  • Budgeting, Planning & Modelling - assist the Director of FP&A with the annual budgeting and forecasting cycles, as well as reviewing and strengthening the current planning models and processes. In particular the role holder will be expected to be at an advanced level of MS Excel and be comfortable creating, enhancing and owning large and complex financial models for analytical and reporting purposes, ensuring all models reflect commercial reality and are fully documented. Model the performance of existing and future products, ensuring they are aligned to long term strategy and deliver sufficient returns.
  • Monthly Variance Analysis – oversee the production of timely and robust variance analysis for inclusion in senior level reporting packs. Build new MI to ensure variances can be monitored through the month end close process in real time.
  • Business Partnering – build effective relationships within the Finance, Commercial and wider teams to ensure the business has the financial and analytical support it needs. Assist with monitoring commercial and pricing strategy.
  • Macro Monitoring – ensure the business remains aware of the changing macro landscape and the impacts this could have. Conduct regular stress tests and formulate mitigation plans to ensure business continuity and success.
  • Ad-hoc Analysis – as and when required, to drive and improve business performance.


Who you are:

The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background and significant Commercial and FP&A experience in Financial Services, ideally with exposure to pricing. They will have a great understanding of business drivers and the metrics that impact financial results. They are happy working with large datasets and presenting insightful analysis to senior stakeholders.

  • Excellent stakeholder management, experience working with senior management team
  • Excellent numeracy and quantitative analysis skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills


What you'll need:

  • Degree or equivalent experience
  • ACA/CIMA/ACCA qualified accountant with significant PQE
  • Advanced IT skills, especially MS Excel & PowerPoint
  • Significant FP&A or Commercial experience in Financial Services
  • Proven ability to build comprehensive financial models
