Senior HSEQ Officer The opportunity has arisen to join an industry leader in UKs Building Services sector. Alternative Heat design, develop and deliver a wide range of offsite-prefabricated, innovative, and sustainable building service solutions throughout the UK & Europe. We specialise in the design, supply, and installation of a wide range of prefabricated energy solutions, typically built in NI and shipped throughout the UK & Europe. We also offer turnkey design, build, and operate solutions for commercial energy centres and large-scale district heating solutions and have experience with successfully procuring and delivering many similar packages to a wide range of public bodies throughout UK & Europe.
Role General assistance and support to the HSEQ Manager and department, ensuring safe practice, quality & environmental compliance on all sites controlled by Alternative Heat in liaison with site teams and relevant staff.
Experience
- Experienced HSEQ professional with considerable work experienced gained in the construction and M&E fabrication/installation sectors.

Responsible to | HSEQ Manager
Key Responsibilities Core Responsibilities of the Role: As a key role within the HSEQ Team, your advice and support to Managers, supervisors, and colleagues will be instrumental to the improvement of the service the HSEQ department provides to the entire company workforce, subcontracted labour, other site workers and members of the public.
- To provide high level support and guidance to the HSEQ Manager, Project Managers and Supervisors.
- This role will be responsible for supporting the maintenance and continual improvement of the Integrated Management System (IMS) covering ISO9001, ISO14001 & ISO45001. Ensuring that our IMS is fully compliant against applicable standards.
- To develop a strong working relationship with all levels of employees and promote a culture of engagement and continual improvement.
- To provide coaching, mentoring and support and provide authoritative advice on the close out of actions.
- To support the delivery of Manager and Supervisor level company health and safety inductions. To identify knowledge or skills gaps (specific focus on safety, company policies and procedures) and implement supportive corrective actions to meet these needs to help ensure competency levels are attained and maintained.
- To provide support for site-based safety requirements liaising closely with contracts teams and taking ownership of HSEQ matters relevant to projects from outset to completion including the development and maintenance of the following:
- Site based HSEQ Management Plans
- Effective company safe systems of work, method statements & risk assessments (RAMS) construction phase plans, COSHH assessments etc. and ensure effective communication.
- Creation and delivery of site inductions & toolbox talks.
- Auditing
- Emergency preparedness and response requirements
- Coaching, Mentoring and Training site personnel.
- Ensuring all safety related incidents are investigated in a timely manner and continuous improvement initiatives are driven following incidents.
- Subcontractor management.
- Lead accident and incident investigation, utilising root cause analysis and provide advice to Operational teams on effective preventative measures to reduce risk.
- To undertake assigned work in a professional and efficient way, in compliance with current HSE legislation, regulatory requirements and the companys Integrated Management System.
- To attend necessary meetings as required.
- Review and record First Aid and spill kit provision across all sites.
- To participate in an Annual Joint Review.

Essential
- NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety.
- Proven HSE experience for a minimum of 3 years.
- Experience of working in New Build and M&E construction environments.
- Experience of undertaking health and safety audits.
- Experience of creating RAMS for complex works.
- Knowledge of health and safety aspects, including legislation and technical standards.
- Accident and incident investigation experience.
- Excellent attention to detail, organisational, planning and communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to deal with clients & internal staff.
- Ability to influence change and challenge those who flaunt H&S rules and guidance.
- Ability to work under pressure and on own initiatives to achieve self and team targets.
- Ability to proactively deal with employees all levels across the company to come up with solutions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Packages i.e., word, excel, PowerPoint, outlook etc
- Ability to travel to other sites across Ireland and the UK.
- Full UK Driving licence
Desirable:
- Chartered membership of IOSH or working towards it.
- NEBOSH Diploma or working towards it.
- ISO Knowledge (45001 9001, 14001)
- ISO internal auditing qualification
- Appointed person Qualification
- Train the Trainer Qualification
