The role:
As a Technical Consultant you will be a key part of the St. James’s Place infrastructure team. The role is responsible for ensuring that our infrastructure and In scope platforms and associated tooling is operating effectively and maintained in accordance with our IT standards and policies to ensure high availability to our community. Advanced level of problem solving is expected with guidance to other technical resources on complex issues. It also Involves working on major initiatives resulting in defining and changing infrastructure architecture as well as improving operational efficiencies.
As well as being a senior stakeholder working with our 3rd parties, you’ll be designing, building IT infrastructure solutions to support our own internal staff, our Partner community and our Clients. We are a cloud first organisation and make extensive use of SaaS, IaaS, PaaS solutions. You’ll be keeping abreast of key developments that could impact our systems as well as changes in tools, technologies or working practices that can be exploited to improve the services we deliver. This role is likely to specialise in a particular technology to an expert level, but also expected to have basic understanding across multiple technologies used (e.g. AWS/Azure/Snowflake)
What you'll be doing:
- Ensure our infrastructure, platforms in scope and environments are maintained in line with our standards and policies, resolving incidents to minimise Impact of failures and achieving our target SLAs
- Keep up to date on changes made by suppliers in the software or tooling, providing recommendations for future changes
- Ensure that business continuity plans for your team are up to date, tests for the plans and system disaster recovery tests are supported and act accordingly for live events
- Design and provide infrastructure architectural direction, input, guidance and oversight, to deliver technical infrastructure changes across our estate.
- Act as a consultant for the technology area for complex problems and issues to help resolve incidents for complicated requirements.
- Train, educate and mentor others within the Technology Operations division.
- Drive and maintain technical roadmap to ensure estate is fully supported.
- Ensure new product/system and cloud features are understood and maximised.
- Ensure security is integrated into our architecture solutions.
- Share your understanding of the AWS Well Architected Framework and/or Microsoft technologies
- Identify areas for automation and deliver automated functions.
- Acts as a subject-matter expert to multiple areas within the Technology Operations division.
- Work closely with internal and 3rd party architects that lead and design architecture for a single project or initiatives
- Consult with application and infrastructure development projects to fit systems or infrastructure to architecture and identify when it is necessary to modify projects.
Essential Criteria:
- Expertise in Snowflake architecture, database design, performance tuning, security and integrations with services, such as AWS
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and automations tools
- Strong understanding of cloud security best practise, IAM policies, data encryption and compliance frameworks
- Proficiency in Python, PowerShell, MS Graph for automation
- Ability to take lead on major incidents and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders.

- Matillion Data Productivity Cloud Foundations Certification
- AWS Solutions Architect Professional
- AWS DevOps Engineer Professional
- AWS Speciality in Advanced Networking or Security
