Senior Manager: Infrastructure Operations Engineering
The Job
We are looking for a Senior Manager to lead the ISD Markets Operations Engineering Function. You will be leading a talented team of engineers and be able to demonstrate superb technical competency, delivering mission critical infrastructure and ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance and security.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of system engineers delivering providing subject matter expertise and best of breed enhancements to the environment including but not limited to automation, monitoring and alerting;
- Manage, deliver and monitor a number of key improvements to the current systems and infrastructure;
- Architect, Design and Drive enhancements to the environment through to implementation;
- Take ownership of team delivery of key projects;
- Actively reports on project progress, raising risks and managing deliverables often with conflicting priorities and timescales;
- Plans with foresight in order to meet deliverables and goals
- Participate in the design of information and operational support systems;
- Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools;
- Provide an advanced level of support to the existing environment when required;
- Maintain the highest levels of system stability and reliability;
- Act as a key escalation point for major incidents;
- Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability;
- Identifies and proposes strategic service and system changes, enhancements and developments and liaises with appropriate third party and software vendors, users and IT teams.
- Responsible for ensuring monitoring performance and identifying any issues, identify possible solutions, and work with engineers to provide resolution;
- Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies;
- Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks;
- Work with Issues Tracking System to ensure services are provided according to relevant SLA(s);
- Escalate risks and issues and provide frequent status reports and for management;
- Write and maintain appropriate documentation for manual and automated processes;
- Understand existing complex environment and be able to easily identify problem areas and undertake successful implementations to resolve and/or mitigate;
- Assist with out of hours / weekend changes;
- Act as a key escalation point for major incidents
The Person
- BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering (or a related subject) or have 10 years relevant experience in similar role and environment;
- Proven working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting UNIX /Linux based environments;
- Experience with virtualization and containerization (e.g., VMware, RHEV)
- Experience with monitoring systems;
- Experience with automation software (e.g., Puppet, Ansible);
- Scripting skills (e.g., shell scripts, Perl, Ruby, Python);
- Networking knowledge;
- Database Knowledge (Oracle, PLSQL);
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management;
- Be self-driven, responsive and capable to working to tight deadlines;
