About The FCA

The FCA regulates the conduct of 45,000 firms in the UK to ensure our financial markets are honest, fair and competitive. Follow this link to find out more About the FCA.

Market Oversight is responsible for overseeing primary and secondary market participants through the listing, prospectus, and market abuse regimes. Our mission is to promote conduct that supports trusted, orderly, and efficient markets.

The Market Oversight Data and Intelligence (MODI) department is responsible for ensuring the provision of high-quality data and innovative technology across Market Oversight.

The Markets Reporting Team (MRT) in MODI is responsible for the UK’s transaction reporting regime. We receive over 7 billion transaction reports a year for transactions executed in over 20 million reportable instruments. The requirements that support the regime are contained in the UK Markets in Financial Instruments Regulation (MiFIR).

MRT’s Functions Include

  • Setting policy requirements and guidelines for the transaction reporting regime
  • Identifying and investigating potential data quality issues with the transaction reports received by the FCA
  • Providing technical advice and support to users of transaction data across the FCA

What will you be doing?

  • Reviewing transaction reporting breach notifications, proactively identifying data quality issues, and leading a diverse portfolio of cases relating to transaction reporting data quality
  • Contributing to the development of transaction reporting policy rules and guidelines, drafting consultations and leading industry engagement as part of our UK MiFIR review
  • Supporting functional oversight of the transaction reporting regime, monitoring the Market Data Processor (MDP) and MRT mailbox
  • Using data to identify trends, outliers and insights to support market abuse enquiries and horizontal market monitoring work

What will you get from the role?

This is a unique opportunity to develop and implement wholesale market policy in a complex, technical and high-profile area. You will further your understanding of wholesale market data and learn how the FCA uses it to monitor markets and detect, investigate and prevent market abuse.
