The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise and oversight throughout the project life cycle, from initial requirements, through concept generation, development and detailed final design.
Location: Wimborne, UK
Your Challenge
- Develop mechanical solutions across a variety of projects, using principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, and material science as required
- Use analytical techniques and recognised tools to design out potential design and process failures
- Apply nuclear standards (e.g. ASME) to ensure proposed design solutions meet industry requirements
- Evaluate products by designing and conducting appropriate design, development, verification and validation methods
- Produce technical evaluations and engineering assessments of proposed design solutions
- Produce technical drawings for manufacture and installation, to national and internationally recognized standards
- Create technical reports and documentation to support manufacture as required
- Provide technical collaboration with customers and suppliers
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies
- Liaising with the Project Management team to ensure progress, and that goals and milestones are aligned
- Provide clear progress reports, estimates to completion and risks to project managers.
- Assess project requirements and agree budgets, timescales and specifications with customer.
- Develop plans, processes, and procedures, including work packages as required to support the execution of project milestones
- Take on responsibility to support the project engineering team to develop and deliver a solution that is technically and commercially viable
- Support the coordination and management of engineering tasks for a project, ensuring on time and on budget deliver
- Technical oversight and guidance of mechanical engineers
- Support bids by providing technical solutions, estimates, and plans
What You Bring
- Qualified to degree level in a Mechanical/Aerospace/Automotive Engineering or similar discipline
- Experience in the design and assembly of products designed to operate in harsh environmental conditions
- Ability to communicate complex aspects of designs verbally and graphically
- A strong working knowledge of 3D modelling software such as Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks or similar
- Knowledge of analytical simulation techniques such as FEA, CFD, etc
- Experience designing jigs and fixtures
- Experience working with BoMs and detailed drawing packs
- Ability to write concise and detailed engineering reports and documentation for publishing.
- Ability to work alone and in a team environment
- Application of ASME coding within a nuclear environment would be advantageous but is not essential
- Knowledge of DFMEA, PFMEA, DFM/DFA and Root cause analysis.
- Perform detailed reviews of engineering drawings
- Leading engineering teams
