Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer (R&T)

Salary: £50,817+ depending on skills and experience
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading the design and development of the next generation Weapon platforms
- Participating in test and trial activities
- Developing design solutions based on customer or internally derived requirements, validating, and verifying through the design process
- Reviewing and checking design work and technical reports, providing help and direction to less experienced engineers
- Analysing component strength using FEA and hand-calculation
- Working cross-functionally within the engineering team to integrate mechanical, electrical and control systems
- Planning and leading Weapon platforms build and commissioning activities
Essential
Your skills and experiences:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline, or a high level of experience within an engineering environment
- Working knowledge of technical office processes, standards and standard instructions (i.e. Business Management System (BMS) and Life Cycle Model (LCM))
- Design for manufacture understanding including knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). This shall include an ability to tailor design output to be commensurate with the Technology readiness level (TRL) required and the budget and schedule available
- Practical understanding of mechanical assembly and functionality, and the ability to provide designs which facilitate these
Desirables
- Working experience using CAD software (CREO Parametric) and PLM software (Teamcenter)
- Experience in the design of weapon system platforms

A vacancy has arisen for a professional Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to work in a team within the R&T Weapons Systems mechanical engineering function. This role is within the R&T team working on the next generation of Weapon System platforms for the future battle space.
