The opportunity:
Are you an experienced Medical Underwriter looking for a new challenge? Zurich Corporate Risk, one of the fastest growing group risk providers in the market started over 10 years ago and since that time has continued to go from strength to strength. To continue with its growth targets and aspirations, we are looking for an Medical Underwriter with a passion for medicine and delivering exceptional customer service.
As an experienced Medical Underwriter, you will be responsible for assessing life and income protection applications and making underwriting decisions for members of new and existing Corporate schemes.
You will be joining a small, inclusive and very supportive Underwriting Team who are committed to nurturing each others development.
We provide a number of opportunities to support your development. You can choose to get involved with supporting underwriters training, mentoring and coaching, specialist roles including vulnerable customers, hosting case clinics.

What will you be doing?
As a medical underwriter in a corporate team you will be able to:
- Make medical underwriting decisions for both life and income protection within agreed authority limits and in line with the Zurich underwriting philosophy
- Provide technical medical underwriting support and guidance to customers and distributors, consistently providing excellent customer service
- Train and support other team members including administrative staff and junior underwriters
- Keep up to date with medical underwriting philosophy considering experience and market conditions
- Use best practice to boost effectiveness and efficiency of our processes
- Delivery against key business, team and individual KPIs
- Liaise with Company Medical Officers and reassurance companies
- Maintain external distributor relationships
- Complete a range of queries and referrals within agreed authority limits, measuring the exposure and analysing the risk of each case to maintain underwriting standards
- Identify opportunities for improvement by monitoring underwriting business processes
- Ensure robust governance is maintained across the team, remaining compliant at all times
- Sharing best practice with other team members
- Provide a standout service experience for customers and stakeholders
- Contribute to a positive and supportive team culture demonstrating a ‘can-do’ attitude
- Take responsibility for delivering quality and timely output to our customers through taking ownership of own workload and supporting colleagues to deliver our team workload
Who are we looking for?
- An experienced medical underwear with experience in either the protection or corporate environment
- Some awareness of the corporate risk market in the UK
- Knowledge of medical underwriting philosophy, techniques, regulations, and guidelines
- Ability to effectively assess risk, using excellent judgement and decision-making skills
- Excellent attention to detail, with strong focus on quality
- Excellent interpersonal skills and able to contribute to a positive and supportive team culture
- Able to build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders at all levels
- Passionate about customers and driving through Continuous Improvement
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Challenge processes, priorities, strategies, use of resource and business decisions to help deliver best results
- CII Diploma in Underwriting or equivalent preferred but not essential
