Description
Senior Reporter – Hydrogen & Future Fuels
Holborn, London, UK.
Argus is where smart people belong and where they can grow. We answer the challenge of illuminating markets and shaping new futures.
We are one of the world’s largest companies providing news, analysis and price information to commodities and energy markets. We report first-hand on what’s happening globally in the energy space – from hydrogen to coal, crude oil to green ammonia, carbon markets to wind farms. And we do the same for economically vital markets in agriculture, fertilizers, metals and chemicals. We employ almost 600 journalists worldwide and have 30 offices in Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, China, Japan, Singapore and North and South America.
What we’re looking for
We are looking for a driven, passionate and resourceful Senior Reporter to help drive our reporting on hydrogen and derivatives, including ammonia, e-fuels and e-SAF.
This is an excellent opportunity for an analytical, inquisitive, numerate and literate individual to develop their expertise and skills in a nascent but evolving sector.
You will have a passion for understanding how complex systems work and will relish the prospect of developing your skills in a role that draws heavily on traditional relationship-based reporting but also data-driven analysis. You will contribute coverage across a range of different formats including daily news, longer feature articles and interviews, while collaborating closely with colleagues across Argus’ many offices around the globe.
There are opportunities to travel and attend industry events, and to develop networks/specific market knowledge, as well as to present at industry conferences, host podcasts and lead webinar sessions.
The role would be ideally suited to a dynamic and curious self-starter with some experience in energy transition topics, and who enjoys cultivating sources as well as reporting and writing news and analysis.
What will you be doing?
- Proactively generate news leads and pitch stories, contribute copy to the on-line news service and weekly publication, offer contributions to special content (blog posts, white papers, webinars, podcasts, etc.)
- Build up your industry expertise and writing skills to provide readers with first-class market insights and analysis
- Establish strong relationships with key members of the industry and business leaders through meetings and frequent communications
- Attend meetings, conferences and industry events to build contacts, report on news and represent Argus in the industry
- Help expand in-house databases covering the hydrogen sector and use them to build stories
- Collaborate with colleagues on the desk and in other teams to enhance and drive coverage
- Take responsibility for mentoring junior staff
- Provide some back-up editing support for our weekly PDF report and daily online news output when the editor is absent
Skills And Experience
- Ability to develop, verify and write industry-relevant news/content in English to deadline
- Excellent writing, grammar and numeracy skills (these will be tested as part of the interview process) and a drive to produce high-quality written content
- Ability to use data to generate stories and analysis using Excel is preferred
- Excellent communication skills with ability to network and build contacts with industry executives
- Background in the hydrogen sector or energy transition more broadly preferred but not essential
- Strong co-ordination and time management skills with the ability to work well within a team, and a keen eye for detail
Attributes
- Interested in facilitating the development of junior staff and colleagues
- Self-motivated, able to use initiative and equipped with a drive to continuously enhance coverage
- A team-player, with an ability and desire to learn from and collaborate with colleagues in London and globally
