Our Mission
At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The VX4, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing), ‘zero emissions’ aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky.
We won’t realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed, instead, we want to ‘redefine’ aerospace best practices.
We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals of having the VX4 in service by 2030.
What To Expect
Join our Hybrid Powertrain Team based in Bristol/Kemble as a Stress Engineer and help us achieve our mission of pioneering electric aviation. This is a unique opportunity to work with a team responsible for the full hybrid powertrain installation into a brand-new aircraft. You'll join a group of highly motivated professionals passionate about creating robust designs using the latest technology to achieve optimized results.
What you'll do?
As a key member of our Hybrid Powertrain Team, your success will be measured by your ability to:
- Perform high-quality stress analyses to deliver optimized, innovative solutions that meet demanding performance and safety requirements.
- Prepare and present clear, comprehensive stress reports to support engineering decisions and program milestones.
- Collect and compile robust verification and certification evidence to support airworthiness compliance and design validation.
What You'll Bring
- It is essential you have strong aircraft/powertrain design and modelling experience. Ideally this would be from another eVTOL/VTOL company where you have worked on a hybrid system/solution or comparable innovative/novel aircraft projects.
- A deep level of understanding of Fatigue & Damage Tolerance or Crashworthiness & Impact methodologies is essential
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence across and up the line, as well as interface effectively with various teams, including Airframe, Systems Engineering, Airworthiness and peers across Power and Controls.
- A pragmatic approach to analysis, understanding when Finite Element (FE) or hand calculations are most appropriate.
- Experience with Hyper Works is advantageous; alternatively, experience with other FEA packages is beneficial.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to focus on and complete detailed tasks in a busy, fast-paced environment.
- Pro-active nature to solving complex problems and challenges
