Job Purpose
Responsible for ensuring that UU has Environment Agency (EA) permits for sludge and waste activities in place to enable it to undertake its core operational activities.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- To provide expert advice to the business on environmental regulation in relation to sludge and waste.
- To influence regulatory direction to ensure UU can sustain a resilient, efficient and environmentally responsible service over the short and long term.
- To work across the business to support development of strategies and plans in relation to sludge and waste
- To ensure permits are delivered in line with business needs
- To develop the scope of regulatory commitments in conjunction with the wider business.
- To manage specific external relationships with the Environment Agency and other WASCs
- Represent UU at relevant Water UK forums, and responsible for interpreting and disseminating the outcomes / implications of the work of these forums.
Technical Skills & Experience
- Excellent leadership skills
- Good understanding of water, wastewater and bioresources assets specifically focused on regulation of these assets
- Excellent understanding of environmental legislation relevant to sludge and waste
- Experience influencing and negotiating with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Strong stakeholder management skills, confident dealing with internal and external stakeholders with differing levels of seniority within their respective organisations
- Excellent interpersonal skills; able to adapt style to suit the situation
- Good oral and written communication skills and be comfortable dealing with a range or external and internal stakeholders
Qualifications
Degree calibre or at least five years relevant experience
