Job Description
We are seeking technically strong and disciplined developers to help drive technical design and lead the team through change in the JP Morgan Athena framework built over Python.
As the Software Engineer III at JPMorgan Chase within the Corporate Sector, you will work with global team that develops and maintains the systems in Athena for trading, risk management, P&L reporting and trade booking covering Global Clearing Business (eg: Foreign Exchange, Interest Rate Swaps, Government Securities ). In this role, you will be a lead developer and will join our existing development team who are working to expand the Global Clearing FX and Prime Brokerage business flows to support modernization of existing flows and technical standards across the team.
Athena is J.P. Morgan's cross-market risk management and trading system that provides functionality for traders, salespeople and operations staff globally. It is used in our foreign exchange, fixed income & credit and commodities businesses. Athena includes a globally replicated object-oriented database, a powerful dependency graph and a fully integrated stack across pricing, risk and trading tools. Athena is designed to provide a continuous deployment environment, and pull developers close to the business to help increase revenues, while improving operational processes and controls to reduce costs.
Job Responsibilities
- Executes software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
- The role will require an ability to attain clear understanding of Athena environment and of the unique design considerations that come into play in a diverse and highly interdependent systems environment.
- Creates secure and high-quality production code and maintains algorithms that run synchronously with appropriate systems
- Produces architecture and design artifacts for complex applications while being accountable for ensuring design constraints are met by software code development
- Gathers, analyzes, synthesizes, and develops visualizations and reporting from large, diverse data sets in service of continuous improvement of software applications and systems
- Identifies hidden problems and patterns in data and uses these insights to drive improvements to coding hygiene and system architecture
- Contributes to software engineering communities of practice and events that explore new and emerging technologies
- Adds to team culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills
- Formal training or certification in Software Engineering/Computer Science concepts and proficient applied experience
- 7+ years of relevant experience
- Strong Proficiency in the Python programming language
- Ability to work in collaborative cross location teams to achieve organizational goals
- Ownership of work, having measured business impact, overcome obstacles and take it through to completion, working as part of this team and collaborating with a much bigger community of developers sharing the technology and code base
- Knowledge of industry-wide technology trends and best practices
- Understanding of Agile development methodologies, responsible for elucidating and agreeing requirements, building relationships with business users, and taking ownership of deliverables all the way to the production environment would be a plus
