Software Test Engineer/QA (Energy Storage Systems)

Location: Fully on-site at our GivEnergy UK Head Office in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire (ST5 9HX)

Schedule: Permanent, 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm

Salary: £35k - £55k pa depending on experience and qualification level

Experience Level: 3+ years’ experience in a similar role would be preferred

We’re growing our team with a Test Engineer to help develop a smart, scalable platform that powers innovation, supports hardware R&D, and keeps GivEnergy ahead of the curve in our mission to empower energy freedom for all!

What You’ll Be Doing

Responsibilities include:

Time Management

• Planning own work and supporting the Lead Test Engineer with planning work for the team.
• Ensuring deadlines are met for projects, making sure that the testing scope can be implemented towards the end of the sprint.

Test Plan and Strategy Creation

• Define test approaches.
• Plan integration testing with hardware components (e.g., inverters and batteries).
• Working with the team analysing requirements, building test plans, and testing new features.

Manual Testing

• Verify UI/UX for mobile applications.
• Perform exploratory testing of new software builds for several teams.
• Root cause analysis for the issue found during QA process.
• Confirm proper logging and fault detection during device operation.

Regression Testing

• Ensure recent software changes haven’t broken existing features.

Firmware Validation

• Test the new software is compatible with existing firmware.

Hardware Testing (Optional)

• Ensure correct data is captured and interpreted (e.g. temperature sensors, motion detectors etc)

What We’re Looking For

Minimum requirements:

• 3+ years’ testing/QA experience in software.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to understand business and technical language.
• ISTQB certification would be preferred.

Including an understanding and competence in:

• Experience with defect and test management software (e.g. Jira or similar).
• Web and mobile applications testing.
• Familiarity with various testing techniques.
• Great troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Writing test cases, check lists and test plans.
• Testing estimations.
• Writing test automation.
• Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence).
• Experience working with mobile testing services/labs.
• CI/CD pipelines.
