About the role

We are looking for a Solicitor to provide high calibre legal support, expertise and business partnering to all functions and businesses within the Just Group.

In the role of Solicitor you will provide support and guidance to other lawyers within the Legal Team, as and when required.

You will assist with the legal coordination and timely delivery of project related activity, as and when appropriate.

You will also assist with the early identification, management , monitoring and mitigation of legal risk in accordance with the Group’s risk appetites and tolerances as enshrined within the Legal Policies, with particular focus on the Legal Risk Management Policy.

Responsibilities

• Raising the businesses’ awareness of legal risk management issues (including relevant developments in the legal and regulatory framework).
• To educate and promote adherence to the businesses’ internal policies, in particular the Group Legal Risk Management Policy.
• To assist in managing functional legal risk, ensuring that adequate internal process controls are applied and reported to identify, manage and mitigate areas of legal risk.
• To help ensure that business are conducted in accordance with risk appetite and tolerances (ensuring that the Principal Solicitor and Legal Leadership Team (as appropriate) are adequately apprised of the same).
• To provide associated training where required.
• To provide high calibre, solution focused legal support and expertise, commensurate with experience, to all business and functional stakeholders in relation to a broad range of Just Group activities, working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels.
• To manage, advise upon, draft and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements relating to the business and functions’ needs and requirements.
• As appropriate, to assist with the management of external law firms (in relation to particular projects/instructions) and ensure responsive, cost effective and solution-focused advice is delivered to the business.
• To work collegiately with other members of the Legal Team, promoting cooperation, trust and teamwork across the broader Legal Department.
• To assist in the development of the businesses’ legal precedent library and miscellaneous practice and guidance notes. To ensure that they reflect the contemporary legal and regulatory environment as well as the businesses’ internal risk tolerances.

Skills & Experience

• Qualified solicitor or barrister
• Post-qualification legal experience preferably in financial services sector
• Experience providing legal advice within a number of the following areas: regulatory, consumer finance, life insurance, consumer insurance, property/mortgages, commercial, distribution arrangements desirable but not essential
• Experience within data protection is desirable
• The ability to remain confident and adaptable in difficult circumstances.
• Problem solving skills
