Water and Waste business unit (WAW) is a true end-to-end business as part of Wärtsilä Portfolio Businesses. WAW is a global leader in designing and supplying innovative wet and dry waste equipment and freshwater generation solutions for passenger vessels & conventional waste management and ballast water treatment equipment for all marine segments. We have now a unique and exciting opportunity for a
Sourcing Manager for the Water and Waste business, based in UK, Poole, Dorset.
As the
Sourcing Manager you will be responsible for the strategic management of the WAW supply base allowing the tactical purchasing teams to operate effectively. and seamlessly. The person will manage the development of a forward-looking project roadmap focused on BOM cost, quality, lead time reduction, and delivery improvements.
The Sourcing Manager will champion supply chain improvement processes, working with the supply base, internal customers to include but not limited to the site supply chain team, purchasing, engineering, quality, and material control.

What will you be doing?
- Ensure 80% of spend is under contract. Ensure contracts are relevant, effective, and properly maintained to ensure renewal prior to expiry
- Primary responsibility within WAW to negotiate pricing and to ensure pricing is maintained effectively within SAP
- Work with Supply Chain Director to improve supplier performance, specifically lead time reduction and OTD improvement. Ensure lead time, MOQ, batch sizes etc are effectively maintained on SAP
- Create ABC categorization of all suppliers
- Create and distribute supplier scorecards for all A and B suppliers each month. Create improvement plans for suppliers not meeting targets, with actions and target dates
- Work with Quality Manager and SQE’s to ensure purchased parts meet quality requirements as per drawings/ tolerances etc
- Review supplier pricing and create cost reduction opportunity funnel, and specific cost saving plans
- Support Sourcing team in China as appropriate
- Work with R&D and Project teams to identify new or alternative suppliers
- Support business transformation projects
- Develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders across the business to achieve objectives.
- Develop and manage existing and potential suppliers including selection, approval, development, consolidation, maintenance, and exit processes in alignment with business objectives
- Identification and implementation of collaborative goals and opportunities to include but not limited to Inventory reduction and management, cost saving projects, supplier quality and OTD improvement.
- Establishing key long-term relationships with strategic suppliers that will deliver sustainable added value to business operations, implementation of supplier management and improvement processes where required.
What we expect from you?
- Degree equivalent in engineering, supply chain, operations, materials or business-related field.
- CIPS, CPIM, PMI, or APICS certification preferred.
- At least 5 years of successful global supply chain and sourcing experience for various categories / services.
- At least 5 years of proven success in negotiating with suppliers directly for large and small value expenditures and constructing such a negotiation in a formal contract.
- Demonstrated results in attaining year-over-year price reduction, cost savings, delivery and quality improvements in the business area supported. Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement with tangible results.
- Demonstrated success in cost improvement projects for supplier quality and delivery.
- Strong project management and matrix organization collaboration skills are a must. Must be comfortable with and demonstrated success in leading projects in a matrix organization within a decentralized geographic organization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are a requirement
- Understands Supplier Quality Management and Auditing.
- Strong negotiation skills and contract management
- Ability to read, understand and communicate engineering drawings and work with BOMs is required.
- Transition management experience of product from one source to another is required.
- MRP Experience.
- Willingness to Travel up to 25% of the time
