Job Summary
International Medical Corps (UK) is an international humanitarian non-governmental organization (NGO) with its headquarters in London. IMC UK was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee in England and Wales on July 2, 2002, and registered as a charitable organization with the Charity Commission on September 19, 2002. Activities commenced on November 1, 2002. IMC UK’s mission is to provide humanitarian assistance, healthcare and training to communities affected by disasters, conflict, and poverty, so they can return to self-reliance. The Charity is an independent affiliate of International Medical Corps, a US-registered non-profit organization that shares the same mission, and International Medical Corps Croatia, an association registered in Croatia.
The purpose of this role is to guide organizational efforts on protection mainstreaming, including safeguarding risk mitigation and prevention duties, within IMC’s Safe, Accountable, and Effective Programming team. The role will oversee implementation of the organizational framework for protection mainstreaming and provide technical assistance and guidance on the integration of protection risk assessments and protection mainstreaming in all IMC programming. The postholder will coordinate across IMC program, technical, and country teams to ensure protection risks are regularly identified and protection considerations are appropriately integrated into all program interventions. This position will lead the prevention workstream under IMC’s Safeguarding Task Force and Safeguarding Unit by advancing risk mitigation efforts and prevention-related activities, institutionalizing and mainstreaming protection within IMC, and support implementation of relevant guidance within programs and accompanying training. The role will provide support to IMC missions to provide individualized technical support to country teams in the areas of safeguarding, protection risk assessment, and protection mainstreaming.

Main Tasks And Responsibilities
Mainstreaming Protection in Programming
- Guide the organization and provide technical support in efforts to mainstream protection into all programming
- Oversee implementation of IMC’s Framework for Protection Mainstreaming, including orientation and dissemination of framework principles
- Update and refine framework, based on new developments in the field and coordination with relevant colleagues
- Develop and implement roll-out and training strategy for “Guidance for Mainstreaming Protection into International Medical Corps Programming”
- Provide direct technical support to staff at country level in the application of protection risk assessments and implementation of protection mainstreaming guidance
Capacity Building: Safeguarding And Protection Mainstreaming
- Lead on the development of prevention and risk mitigation measures within the context of safeguarding
- Design and conduct organizational training related to safeguarding and protection risk mitigation, as well as protection mainstreaming
- Review and provide input on key resources, training materials, and policies related to safeguarding and protection mainstreaming
- Support management on recommendations for prevention and risk mitigation measures related to safeguarding investigation outcomes
- Collaborate on the development, roll-out, and implementation of training materials for country-level managers, Safeguarding Focal Points, Survivor Assistance Liaisons, and Safeguarding Caseworkers
- Collaborate on the development, roll-out, and implementation of briefings, orientations, and training for Accountable and Effective Programming staff, particularly being responsible for all elements related to protection risk mitigation and protection mainstreaming
- Provide training and support to other departments within IMC to ensure protection is mainstreamed in other sectors
- Support field staff to develop self-guided learning plans on protection mainstreaming
Assessment And Technical Support
- Oversee the application of the Protection Risk Assessment Tool and the Protection Mainstreaming Action Plan with country offices and ensure their institutionalization into IMC program design and implementation
- Advise country teams on the development of contextualized protection risk mitigation measures
- Perform regular protection mainstreaming assessments
- Support field teams to incorporate protection in multi-sectoral field assessments
- Remain updated on new developments and emerging best practices and share new resources and learning with field teams
- Provide individualized technical support to country teams in the areas of safeguarding, protection risk assessment, and protection mainstreaming, including regular field missions
- Work with other departments to create a policy and guidance on the implementation of effective programming
Internal Coordination
- Ensure international guidelines, relevant documents, and best practices are considered and shared across the organization
- Ensure that key staff members are kept abreast of current national and international protection issues, trends, and protection policies
- Work in close collaboration with other program specialists
- Work with country teams and others to support publishing and dissemination of articles, success stories, presentations, and interviews highlighting work in protection

Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in social sciences
- Related field or relevant work experience
- Highly experienced professional experience in the field of humanitarian protection
- Highly experience in protection programming, including in emergencies and in conflict settings
- Experience with participatory approaches to protection, emergency preparedness, crisis/emergency relief management
- Demonstrated technical experience in protection mainstreaming in humanitarian programming and response
- Working knowledge of core standards and principles of Safeguarding and Protection from Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA)
- Familiarity with international humanitarian operations, coordination structures, and the mandates of donors, UN agencies, and other NGOs
- Profound cross-cultural awareness
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently
- Ability to effectively present information and respond appropriately to questions from senior managers in the field and HQ, counterparts, government representatives, and others
- Proficient in computer applications, especially with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Fluency in English is required (oral and written)
- Working knowledge of Arabic and/or French is desirable
- Ability and willingness to travel on business as required by the agency
