Staff Nurse - Trauma Assessment Unit (TAU).
Hello. My name is Julie Jackson and I am the senior sister for the Trauma Assessment Unit.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated nurse with excellent communication skills who has a passion for providing exceptional high quality care to our patients. We are looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking band 5 nurse to support in maintaining the high standards of quality and safety, and to ensure our patients get the best experience possible within our fast-paced unit.
We support the on-call consultant, SHO and registrar daily and you will be required to provide a service of assessment and reviewing trauma and orthopaedic patients whereby relevant testing, imaging and intervention can take place with a view for appropriate management. Effective time management and communication of referrals are key to the flow that is required in supporting the on-call team.
We are looking for a staff nurse who can continue to support in maintaining this high level of patient care and satisfaction and the continuing growth of the unit.

Main duties of the job
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
As a staff nurse in TAU you will have duties and responsibilities such as:
The initial assessments of patients whilst waiting for the on call team, nurse practitioners and consultants to assess/review patients, including: taking a brief history, taking observations, taking blood testing samples, performing bladder scans, performing blood glucose testing, cannulation, removing dressings, initial wound care, requesting x-rays as guided by the on-call team and communicating this back to the team on-call
Understand and assist in the application of braces, slings and splints
Provide appropriate wound care and management
Support the doctors while performing minor procedures in the treatment room and with dressing application and ensuring they have all the necessary equipment required
Administer medications
Have good communication skills to be able to provide health education and teaching to patients and carers
Have good communication skills to keep patients informed, provide comfort and reassurance
You Will Be Required To Work According To The NMC Code Of Professional Conduct And Relevant Professional Guidelines As a Named Nurse For a Defined Group Of Patients And Take Responsibility For:
The assessment of care and health educational needs
The development, implementation and evaluation of care including discharge planning for each patient.
