The CURE Project across UHL is part of the NHS Long Term Plan, working to prevent illnesses that develop as a result of smoking. CURE is a systematic approach to identify all smokers admitted to hospital, provide them with appropriate pharmacotherapy and behavioural support and onward care to long term stop smoking support in the community.
We have a full-time, permanent contract position working 37 hours per week. Youll be able to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends by agreement, to provide sessions to meet service user needs. Youll work across the 3 hospital sites Glenfield Hospital, Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospital.
Main duties of the job
What Youll Be Doing
As a key part of the Acute CURE team, youll work predominantly in hospital wards to offer behavioural change support and pharmacotherapy to inpatients who have a tobacco addiction. Youll manage a caseload of clients and monitor their progress, as well as make further referrals to other services to support clients to enhance their health and wellbeing. This will include planning and delivering treatment sessions, using motivational interviewing techniques, and providing clients with tools to help them with stopping smoking.
What Youll Need
With previous experience of supporting individuals to change their behaviour and helping them to facilitate these changes, youll understand the impact of smoking on an individuals health. Youll have completed the NCSCT (National Centre for Smoking Cessation & Training) Knowledge and Skills programme OR be willing to complete this within 1 month of commencement in the post. Using excellent verbal and written communication skills, youll be able to listen actively, provide clear explanations and clinical advice to patients and health professionals. Youll be able to engage, influence and persuade others, whilst motivating them to make a change and stop smoking. As a proficient IT user, youll be able to confidently maintain accurate records on the client record management systems. Self -motivated, enthusiastic, and compassionate, youll be dedicated to the stop smoking agenda to achieve the best outcomes.
