Job Description
Due to expansion of the team, the Environment and ESG Team currently has a vacancy for an
Environmental Study Manager; a role which combines environmental study preparation with line management responsibilities.
The role requires knowledge and experience of
atmospheric emissions permitting for onshore and offshore industrial facilities. The role will involve being the technical lead for the company's extensive
UK Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) portfolio but will also involve permitting under the other schemes such as Pollution Prevention and Control and Environmental Permitting. Workstreams typically relate to management of permit compliance for operating industrial sites as well as preparation of permit applications for new industrial developments onshore and offshore.
The regulation of atmospheric emissions is regularly updated, and the role will require the ability to understand changes to complex permitting schemes and how to maintain compliance for our clients.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing workload and resourcing in relation to a team of environmental professionals whilst continuing to work on projects to further their own technical development.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work as part of the highly skilled Environmental & ESG Delivery Team within Genesis, supporting a wide range of clients on varied and interesting scopes of work related to large scale industrial projects, operations and activities.
Experience and knowledge of compliance requirements in relation to
the UK Emissions Trading Scheme is essential. Experience and knowledge of emissions aspects of the Pollution Prevention & Control Scheme and Environmental Permitting regimes would be beneficial but not essential.
The role combines:
- Overseeing a portfolio of projects related to compliance with the UK ETS and other emissions permitting requirements;
- Managing the Environmental & ESG Delivery Team approach to ETS compliance, through management of templates and setting current best practice;
- Leading projects related to compliance with the UK ETS and other emissions permitting requirements, acting as the main contact on technical and commercial matters;
- Ownership of Genesis developed ETS tools;
- Providing environmental input to clients / projects through provision of technical guidance and preparation of documentation related to atmospheric emissions permitting;
- Providing leadership and line reporting to a team of environmental consultants, engineers and scientists;
- Development and retention of talent within their team; motivating team members to meet personal and business targets;
- Interfacing with clients;
- Proposal input and preparation; and
- Identification of new markets and service offerings related to emissions permitting.
- Liaison with Environmental & ESG Delivery Manager and other Environmental Study Managers to coordinate allocation of appropriate personnel across a range of projects (accounting for existing skills and learning opportunities);
Studies and assessments may typically include:
- Identification and interpretation of relevant environmental regulations and standards;
- Planning for onshore and offshore permit applications and variations;
- Supporting clients with annual ETS compliance cycle including regulatory submissions and verification process;
- Supporting clients to understand the impact of changes to the ETS regulations, for example through review of consultations or revised guidance, and how to stay compliant;
- Helping clients understand the impact of operational changes on potential free allocation received;
- Conducting site visits to conduct internal audits or “health checks” against permit requirements; and
- Best Available Technique (BAT) assessments.
Required Skills:
The successful applicant must
- Have a degree in a relevant science, engineering or environmental subject;
- Have knowledge of relevant environmental legislation and standards;
- Have project management experience on small to medium projects;
- Have experience in client relationship building;
- Be a strong team player;
- Be well-motivated and able to work to tight deadlines;
- Have excellent written skills with attention to detail.
