Subject Matter Expert - Towing Hardware

Due to our continued growth, we are now recruiting for a Subject Matter Expert - Towing Hardware to be based at our customer's office in Fen End, UK.

Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast-growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.

ROLE SUMMARY 

The Accessories department is looking for a dynamic Subject Matter Expert to drive Off-Cycle strategy and On-Cycle delivery of towing commodities. The role involves working cross-functionally with areas including Core Engineering, Vehicle Attributes & Vehicle Engineering (VAVE), Manufacturing, Product Marketing, Programme Management, Finance and Creative to develop robust, innovative and feature-rich solutions supporting a diverse project landscape. Commodities will be delivered for both line and retailer fit, which follow unique processes. The Accessories Towing Subject Matter Expert will report to the Engineering Chapter Lead for Structural Accessories and will work extremely closely with the relevant customer Engineering teams in Accessories and Core. Primary responsibility will be the development of towing hardware commodity strategy in the Off-Cycle space including all foundation documentation. Concept development during early programme stages and support for On-Cycle programmes to ensure product alignment with customer brand houses and global compliance requirements. The successful candidate will have a clear passion for the quality, continuous improvement and innovation of both our products and the way we operate in the eyes of our internal and external customers, approaching all activities with unity and integrity

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY

• Ownership of Commodity Strategy Documentation 


• Authoring of Bills of Design 


• Foundation DFMEA Management 


• Competitor Benchmarking • Cost Database Generation and Management 


• Authoring and Maintenance of Standards, Design Rules etc 


• Pre-PS support in content definition 


• Support Lead Engineers in PS to PSC activities


• Lead Concept feasibility studies 


• Support Lead Engineers in vehicle enablers discussions 


• Review/sign-off PDS and RFQ documents created by Lead Engineers during sourcing 


• Support the GSP process to nominate suppliers up to SBR2 


• New supplier benchmarking and identification 


• Prevent Recurrence Actions ownership and resolution 


• Consult with cross-functional teams to ensure technical issues are identified, progressed and resolved via best practice methodologies 


• Communicate and present technical guidance and recommendations to all levels of the business 


• Primary contact for Feature development within Accessories department, providing effective liaison and communication between the linked business areas 


• Support Lessons Learnt and continuous improvement activities from all programmes as best practice

KNOWLEDGE/ EXPERIENCE

Essential: 

• Detailed knowledge of global legislation and regulations applicable to towing systems 


• Experience of developing and delivering complex electro-mechanical systems/commodities 


• Experience of Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Design of Experiments (DoE) 


• Experience authoring and maintaining DFMEAs using relevant tools e.g. Reliasoft 


• Experience authoring Bills of Design, Standards and Requirements using relevant tools e.g. TRM, XRAY 


• Expert knowledge of Systems Engineering processes 


• Experience of project engineering within the automotive industry 


• Detailed knowledge of warranty/quality process and best practises e.g. Six Sigma 


• Degree or relevant equivalent experience • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 


• Experience of authoring formal documentation 

Desirable: 

• Proven ability to build and manage multiple internal and external relationships in complex stakeholder environments 


• Understanding of CAD/CAE authoring and analysis techniques and processes 


• Experience of Agile methodology and associated tools e.g. JIRA 


• Experience of module team delivery 


• Previous SME experience
