What’s the role?
This project is based in the
Place directorate in the Council.
The
Place directorate is focused on strategic place-making, with responsibility for coordinating development and growth in order to create thriving neighbourhoods, maximise housing supply and promote economic opportunities for residents and businesses. The directorate also plays a key role in delivering a safer, cleaner, and greener Lewisham. Our Inclusive Regeneration division are on a mission to ensure that growth and progress leaves no one behind. From creating new homes and improving infrastructure to supporting local businesses and employment, they're paving the way for a brighter future for all. Leading the charge in addressing the Climate Emergency head-on, they also manage the Council's estate and buildings, ensuring they're fit for purpose and sustainable. With their passion and innovation, they're shaping Lewisham into a place where everyone can thrive, today and for generations to come.
This role will be based in the Council’s
Climate Resilience Team and deliver a key strand of activity from Lewisham’s Climate Action Plan to reduce single-use plastics across the Council. The role will gain insights into the work of teams across the organisation including waste & recycling, facilities management, communications and events teams and will also be involved cross-borough work on this issue coordinated by London Councils. The work is an opportunity to learn about and promote circular economy principles, build an understanding of the Council’s environmental footprint and help find creative practical solutions that work for frontline staff and align with the Council’s ambitions for climate action.

Location
The job is based in Laurence House, Catford, SE6 4RU, although there might be opportunities for visits to our satellite sites across Lewisham borough.
Special conditions
- You must be a 2nd year undergraduate student AND have a Lewisham-registered home address (these details will be verified prior to interviews)
- You'll earn 4 days' annual leave which must be taken during your 8-week placement. If you have any other holidays booked beyond the 4-day allowance, these will be unpaid.

Salary
London Living Wage - £13.85 per hour; 35 hours a week.
