Teacher-personalised Education Service (0.8 FTE/4 days a week)
About Us
We are a statutory service whose remit is to provide short term, interim education and support for children of statutory school age (5 – 16) who are unable to attend school because of a medical need. Our team consists of qualified teachers, a SENCO, a therapist, a team of caseworkers, an examinations and attendance officer and a business support officer. We provide bespoke tuition which takes place either at our tuition centre in Orpington, remotely (via Teams) or if medically indicated, in the child’s home. We also provide education using the latest technology such as the AV1 audio-visual unit. Additionally, the service is responsible for providing education to children in hospital and has a school room on the children’s ward at the Princess Royal University Hospital.
About The Role
We are seeking an outstanding teacher to join our team of creative and passionate teachers. You will have a teaching timetable which will include delivery of lessons to a range of age groups across a variety of locations, including some time teaching in the hospital schoolroom. You should be confident with working independently but equally committed to be being part of a team. Whilst we are not specifically a SEND provision many of our learners have additional and/or undiagnosed needs so it would be beneficial for the successful candidate to have experience of implementing evidence-based strategies to support learners with SEND. We are not seeking a subject specialist, but teaching will include delivery of the core subjects in KS2/KS3. Having a core subject specialism at KS4 would be helpful but is not essential.
What We Are Looking For
- Someone who wants to make a difference where it most counts
- Someone who believes that every young person has the potential to succeed with the right help and support
- Someone who understands the importance of high-quality teaching and learning with a personalised approach to meet individual needs.
- Someone who is creative thinker with a flexible approach to curriculum delivery and a willingness to think out of the box to plan and facilitate bespoke learning through a variety of methods.
- Someone who is willing to deliver a range of subjects across a variety of key stages – a willingness to upskill is essential. The successful candidate will be well supported by our subject leads.
- The successful candidate will have good ICT skills and will be confident with delivering remote lessons using MS Teams.
- The successful candidate will need to be able to travel across the London Borough of Bromley so access to a car is essential.
Don’t worry if you don’t have experience of alternative education: very few of us did before we came here, the drive and desire to learn is, however, absolutely essential.
What We Can Offer You
We can offer you a unique experience away from the mainstream. This is an opportunity to develop your skillset with children with a variety of needs, both physical and mental health related. You will only ever be teaching 1:1 or in a small group (max size 5/6 students), as our service provides bespoke, personalised education the pace of the service is slower, providing teachers with the opportunity to carefully plan and deliver highly individualised education in a calm environment. As most teaching is 1:1 or 1:2/3 there are rarely issues with behaviour that isn’t helpful for learning.
The service actively promotes staff having a healthy work-life balance as we believe that to do the specialised work we do, you need to have time to look after yourself. As we work closely with complex cases monthly supervision is offered to every team member. There are opportunities for multi-agency working and CPD sessions are held regularly. To understand the uniqueness of the role we encourage prospective candidates to contact us to arrange an informal discussion with our Lead Teacher. To arrange this please contact Amanda Carter –
