We are the UK's aviation and aerospace regulator, responsible for the regulation of aviation safety in the UK, determining policy for the use of airspace, the economic regulation of Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports, the licensing and financial fitness of airlines and the management of the ATOL financial protection scheme for holidaymakers. The Role
You will play an invaluable role as a case officer which will support the Principal, Senior (Lead) and Specialists in the Airspace Infringement team. You will provide support to the infringement process to ensure the reduction of and impact of airspace infringements in the UK, as part of wider airborne conflict (mid-air collision) prevention.
Core Accountabilities
The collation of airspace infringement casefiles for review by the Airspace Infringement Team or the Infringement Coordination Group (ICG) in accordance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) by:
- Obtaining relevant information.
- Corresponding with aircraft owners and pilots.
- Referring process queries to Airspace Infringement Senior Case Officer.
- Input casefile information.
- Utilising internal databases to determine the validity of flight crew documentation at the time of the occurrence.
- Submitting casefiles for review in accordance with CAP 1404 – Airspace Infringements: Review and Actions
Administrative Support To The Airspace Infringement Specialists And ICG
- Providing relevant case information to the ICG
- Maintaining an accurate record of communications between the CAA and external parties.
Enable The CAA To Perform Its Functions Efficiently And Effectively As The UK’s Aviation Safety Regulator And Protect Against Reputational Risk By
- Maintaining thorough and accurate records of the casefile collation process to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Keeping up to date with CAA records management policies and procedures to ensure continuing compliance.
- Communicating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Referring licensing and other regulatory matters arising throughout the casefile collation process to other capability areas within the CAA.
Additional duties as required by the Airspace Infringement Principal, Senior (Lead) and Senior Case Officer and deputising for the Senior Case Officer when required.
About You
The role requires engagement with people and organisations in the airspace infringement process and will require a high level of tact and diplomacy. As the first point of contact between the party reported to have infringed notified airspace and the CAA, you must have the confidence to deliver at pace and with accuracy to protect the CAA’s reputation and ensure that it can perform its regulatory function promptly, effectively and with integrity.
Essential Minimum Criteria
- Strong command and experience of using all MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Have experience in obtaining and presenting data in an accessible format and in analysing both qualitative and quantitative data.
- Able to work in line within a defined process with deadlines and/or Service Level Agreements with strong personal time-management skills.
- Confidently work with a high level of accuracy, including communicating, with a high level of attention to detail with minimal supervision. .
- Able to identify quality, errors, and provide feedback.
- Is comfortable making decisions to ensure quality and applying sound judgement on when to seek advice and support.
- Able to prioritise workload in accordance with defined risk criteria and be comfortable in assigning workload to others whilst considering their workload and performance.
- Confidently engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Highly organised and able to work effectively within a multi-disciplined team.
- Understand regulated sources of UK aeronautical information such as the NATS Aeronautical Information Service including UK AIP, NOTAM, and NATS/CAA VFR charts.
- Be familiar with or have an understanding of UK aviation within an air traffic management (ATM), flight crew or regulatory environment, as well as UK airspace, its structures and associated classifications.
- Awareness of CAP1404.
Desirable Experience
- Awareness the MOR scheme and Just Culture.
- Understanding of the CAA regulatory structure, working practices and procedures.
- Awareness associated external agencies such as NATS and other ANSPs.
- Have previously worked within the UK Aviation or Aeronautical industry.
Additional Information
For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance. To be vetted we will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken.
