Role: Technical Programme Manager (Cloud Migration)

Location: London / Hybrid (2 days per week in the office)

Reporting to: Head of Programmes & Analysis

The Role

At Rightmove we are undertaking an ambitious programme of change, upgrading infrastructure, onboarding new tooling and capabilities, expanding existing areas of the business as well as exploring green field initiatives.

We work in semi-autonomous cross-functional teams using Agile processes. Each team owns a part of the Rightmove experience and is made up of design, product, engineering and testing specialists. However, where an initiative spans multiple teams and is high in complexity, we require someone to manage the bigger picture. This is where our programme managers come in. Their job is to be ensure all of the local efforts are co-ordinated to achieve the desired business outcomes.

The first assignment for the person who takes this role will be to take the reins of a large-scale cloud migration programme.

What you'll be doing

  • Manage complex programmes ensuring alignment, collaboration, and effective delivery across all involved stakeholders
  • Create and maintain programme plans, ensuring that dependencies between initiatives are well understood
  • Ensure scope is managed effectively and programmes stay focused on agreed goals and outcomes
  • Establish and maintain effective governance and status reporting without disrupting Agile practices.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships and take responsibility for programme communication
  • Proactively identify and manage risks, issues, and blockers and ensure risk mitigation activities are undertaken
  • Where required, agree and co-ordinate business change activity to ensure that affected stakeholders aren’t adversely affected by any programme-led changes
  • Where required, track project costs and manage procurement activity
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and lead retros to identify actionable improvements to our ways of working
  • Play a role in managing your programme teams, helping resolve conflicts, motivating staff and keeping an eye on staff well-being
  • Where required, be flexible to drop-down a level of detail and manage individual initiatives
  • Contribute to defining and improving internal ways of working across programme and project management, change management, and agile delivery management

What you'll bring to the role

Essential

  • Repeated experience of managing large-scale programmes, preferably in a product-led environment
  • Must have managed at least one major cloud migration programme and understand the key challenges associated with such programmes
  • Strong technical knowledge to understand technology architectures, technical dependencies and to work effectively with engineers and architects
  • Strong working knowledge of agile methodologies, agile at scale and more traditional programme management practices
  • Demonstrated ability to lead without direct authority, influencing diverse teams with varying priorities.

Ideally

  • Past experience of hands-on roles within tech teams such as engineer, architect, QA, etc
