The role:
The main purpose of this role is to support and continually evolve SJP’s approach and capabilities in IT Disaster Recovery, chaos testing and technical resiliency. To ensure the DR plans and tests are appropriate and use the evolving capabilities as implemented.
Interface with the Business Continuity & Operational Resilience teams, providing information as required and input on policies, tolerances and thresholds in relation to IT systems within SJP estate.
You will provide oversight on how the Group complies and evidence IT testing as required by the regulator also working with suppliers to understand future strategies in this space.
What you'll be doing:
The role of a Technical Resilience Manager would be to:
- Fully understand the FCA and PRA regulatory requirements in respect of technical disaster recovery and resilience.
- Understand AWS tools and capabilities regarding zone and region resiliency and how that is applied to our estate, enabling us to understand and articulate our spread of risk.
- Assess the technical architecture of our critical services to ensure they meet resiliency requirements.
- Understand, recommend and apply new techniques for DR testing (e.g. chaos engineering, fault injection etc..) to ensure that SJP’s approach provides value as architecture and technologies change.
- Champion recommendations and changes to improve resiliency and recovery for SJP’s critical services and help develop business cases as required.
- Resilience Planning & Testing: Implement and optimise the use of AWS Resilience Hub to assess and improve the resilience of applications by testing failure scenarios (including cyber related scenarios), identifying weaknesses, and remediating issues.
- Performance Tuning & Optimization: Analyse system performance, identifying bottlenecks, HA concerns and identifying ways to improve resilience.
- Disaster Recovery (DR) & High Availability (HA): Create and maintain disaster recovery strategies and high-availability architectures, leveraging AWS Resilience Hub and other services like Route 53, Auto Scaling, and Elastic Load Balancing.
- Collaborative Development: Work closely with development teams and Cyber to ensure that services are designed with reliability, scalability, and fault tolerance in mind.
- Develop / apply / implement testing approaches that are appropriate and aligned to the technology and architecture of critical applications in the AWS estate.
- Contribute to oversight where other datacenter(s) used directly by SJP to host SJP supported services and applications.
- Document and plan disaster recovery tests, working with appropriate technical infrastructure and application teams to carry out the tests.
- Oversee the quality of detailed DR plans – particularly from technical accuracy perspective.
- Interface with Business Continuity team and Operational Resilience, providing updates as required.
Who we're looking for:
We're looking for a proactive and detail-oriented leader with strong problem-solving and communication skills. The ideal candidate will drive technical resilience, collaborate across teams, ensure regulatory compliance, and enhance disaster recovery strategies to strengthen the reliability and security of critical services.
Essential Criteria
- Certified in AWS including but not limited to AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, and/or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator
- Strong experience with Chaos Engineering, including AWS Resilience Hub and AWS Fault Injection Service.
- Strong knowledge of AWS technologies including but limited to EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3, VPC, and CloudFormation.
- Terraform, Python and PowerShell.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of working with AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery
- Solutions Architect Professional and DevOps Professional Certification
- Experience working in Financial Services and/or a regulated industry
Special Requirements:
- Travel may be a requirement to attend supplier service review meetings.
