THE TEAM
At JSM Group, our Planning Department plays a vital role in the successful delivery of telecoms and utilities projects across the UK. We are a collaborative, skilled, and driven team responsible for taking projects from feasibility through to completion. Working closely with operational teams, clients, and authorities, we ensure every scheme is delivered efficiently and compliantly.
SCOPE OF ROLE
As a Telecoms Planner, you will be responsible for providing planning and design services for street works projects in the telecoms and utilities sectors. This role involves overseeing the full lifecycle of projects, from initial feasibility to as-built documentation, supporting both operational delivery and future project planning. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to progress into project management.
How You'll Succeed
- Plan and design telecoms routes, customer connections, diversionary works, and upgrades.
- Undertake feasibility studies and produce designs for new build and maintenance projects.
- Compile Special Engineering Difficulty (SED) registers and coordinate with relevant authorities.
- Prepare and manage job packs, private wayleaves, paving schedules, cable designs, and route documentation.
- Review client proposals and issue detailed route drawings for surveys.
- Manage GPS-based as-built information and assist with project handover documentation.
- Develop Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS).
- Coordinate with stakeholders including highways authorities, structure owners, and utility representatives.
- Create and update project programmes in MS Project and compile progress reports.
- Maintain Fibre Allocation schedules and Connectivity Diagrams.
- Follow JSM Group’s safety, health, environmental, and quality (SHEQ) procedures.
What It Takes
- Proven experience in telecoms fibre and civils design; experience with BT Openreach PIA is advantageous.
- SSSTS qualification preferred for RAMS preparation.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; MS Project experience desirable.
- Effective communicator with the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
- Willingness to travel across the UK as required.
- Clean UK driving licence.
