About The Role
Are you passionate about caring for the environment? We have an exciting opportunity to join our Wastewater Quality and Compliance team as a Trade Effluent Advisor, working with your colleagues to support us in managing trade effluent discharges and providing excellent service for our customers, communities, and the environment.
The role involves ensuring that discharges of trade effluent into our sewerage network are carefully assessed and managed to prevent harm to the environment. You will be responsible for the issue of consents to discharge to our customers and ensuring continued compliance with environmental conditions, which can involve taking samples and reviewing chemical analysis.
You’ll be working with customers and stakeholders to ensure that our discharges of treated effluent comply with our environmental permits and working alongside colleagues to undertake investigations and site visits.
The role involves onsite technical investigations, accurate evidence gathering, and you will be responsible for the completion of investigation reports, providing feedback and advice to customers and stakeholders to maintain and improve our environmental compliance.
You’ll be self-motivated and able to prioritise a demanding workload to ensure site visits are carried out in a timely manner, discharge consents are issues in accordance with service level agreements and follow up actions and communications are fulfilled.
This role supports a wide number of colleagues across the wastewater directorate to help them achieve strategic objectives.
About You

We’re looking for the successful candidate to have the knowledge and experience of wastewater collection and treatment systems, along with excellent customer service skills. Knowledge and understanding of regulatory frameworks is desirable but not essential, and you should have experience of Quality, Environmental and Health and Safety procedures.
You’ll have proven experience of being a strong team player, involving and supporting others in problem-solving and decision-making processes, along with effective relationship management and networking ability (across all areas of the business and with external stakeholders).
We’re looking for you to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with highly developed literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving skills. You will be motivated to embrace innovation and to look for and highlight potential improvements in ways of working.
The role requires a full and valid driving licence with the ability to travel around the Northumbrian Water region and the use of your own vehicle.

This role has also been defined as a safety or security critical role and as a condition of a formal offer of employment you’ll be required to undergo a drug and alcohol test.
