Transportation Manager - Carriage of Dangerous Goods

Position: Transportation Manager - Carriage of Dangerous Goods (CDG)

Division: Global Inspection and Engineering Services

Reporting to: Regional Manager - Europe

Location: Manchester, UK

Role Purpose:

The post holder will be responsible for the maintenance of European accreditations, expansion of service and technical support for HSB’s global Transportation Services business.

Transportation Services includes all of the European Carriage of Dangerous Goods (CDG) codes/standards as well as TPED activities.

Functions:

Functions (percentage of time allocated):

1. Maintain accreditations for CDG and TPED services. (30%)
2. Develop and implement new accreditations in line with HSB’s commercial strategy (30%)
3. Coordinate with Technical staff for the development and delivery of programme tools (20%)
4. Develop/train regional technical support staff (10%)
5. Respond to technical questions regarding the service (10%)

Accountable for:

• The maintenance of current accreditations
• Development and implementation of new business focussed services
• Overall responsibility to ensure inspection and certification activities for CDG are carried out in compliance with the relevant standards.
• Ensuring suitable responses are addressed to technical questions and final decision on interpretations.

Education & Experience:

• Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Chartered Engineer status or equivalent
• 5+ years technical experience in the CDG industry
• Experience of training technical staff
• Industrial fabrication experience – preferable

Knowledge & Skills:

• Technical experience in CDG certification and manufacturing
• Working knowledge of regulation compliance requirements and methods
• Excellent communication skills
• Project management skills
• Able to demonstrate interpersonal skills including customer interaction by phone, support for project team tasks.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and schedule time with minimal supervision and direction.
• Customer focussed.
