Overall Purpose of The Job
SeaTec’s Condition Monitoring (CM) department offers an immediate opportunity for a Tribologist with experience in used lubricating oil analysis, fuel oil and water analysis.
Key Responsibilities And Tasks
- Fluid analysis is a growing business within SeaTec and some of the world’s largest shipping companies are our clients.
- The requirement is for an acknowledged expert in the interpretation of test results pertaining to lubricating oil, fuel oil, cylinder scrape down oil, fuel purifier, oily water separator, water and grease.
- The tribologist will report to the General Manager.
- The role requires diagnostic and investigative abilities based on test results provided by our laboratory and the ability to deal directly with our clients resolving their issues concerned with lubricants and fuel oil.

Essential
- Master’s/Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Chemistry disciplines
- Experience in a fluid testing laboratory, OEM, Condition monitoring, class societies, oil majors etc.
- Experience with used lubricating oil, fuel and water: analysis, interpreting results and reporting
- Experience within the marine industry and good knowledge of IMO regulations
- Familiar with MS Office packages including word processing, spread sheets, databases and web-based applications
- Able to provide technical updates/newsletters to the clients
- Professional accreditations (ICML, STLE, BINDT) or certifications as relevant.
Desirable
- Good knowledge on analysis procedures, regulations, and interpretation of results to applicable ISO/ASTM standards
- Experience in working with water (ballast water, scrubber water, sewage, potable water etc.)
- Experience in fuel oil analysis and interpretation. Good knowledge on bunker analysis procedures, regulations, and interpretation of results to applicable ISO standards
- Lubricants designing and blending experience
- Knowledge of rotating and reciprocating machinery
- 5+ years of experience in the above field is highly desirable
- The job requires the engineer to be highly motivated
- Ability to adopt a proactive approach to system improvement/problem solving and knowledge sharing
- Knowledge of root cause failure analysis
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal. The job involves considerable communication with the client, from technician to managerial level
- Ability to work in a team environment and to show initiative when required.
