The Opportunity
Ugobus is the County Council’s in house transport fleet, mainly used to provide passenger transport for Adult Social Care clients to Essex Cares Ltd centres, and children to Special Educational Needs, mainstream schools, and local bus routes.
The thriving team provide a lifeline to access social and welfare facilities for some of the most vulnerable Essex residents.
The Ugobus Coordinator will manage all day-to-day aspects of delivering a quality transport service and will ensure that they manage staff and vehicle resources to meet customer transport requirements and achieve the service objectives of excellent customer service, supporting access to employment, education and care opportunities.
This person will ensure their team of drivers across an operational area adhere to all health and safety and legislative requirements under which Ugobus operates.
Accountabilities
- Responsible for ensuring all work undertaken meets the legislative requirements under which Ugobus operates (e.g. drivers’ hours requirements, Section 19/22 licencing, where appropriate).
- Manage a team of 30 – 40 drivers/passenger assistants and ensure they adhere to GDPR and HR policies and practices.
- Ensure records are kept accurately with regards to operational data and risk assessments.
- Ensure all drivers/passenger assistants always adhere to health and safety, and legal operating procedures and take corrective action if required.
- Ensure all drivers/passenger assistants always comply with the Highway Code, delivering a quality and professional service and demonstrating exemplary behavior at all times.
- Ensure all drivers/passenger assistants complete a comprehensive training program, including refresher courses, and there are appropriate learning opportunities to up skill the team to meet future requirements. Identify and provide support for individuals who require it and encourage a culture of continuous improvement.
- Support managers in delivering a high-level of customer service, ensuring customer complaints are brought to a prompt and satisfactory conclusion or escalated to a senior level where appropriate.
- Support the Managerial Team in route planning and resource allocation to ensure optimise efficiency and costs.
- Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.
- Provide cover for colleagues during times of annual leave & sickness.
The Experience You Will Bring
- Educated to A level / NVQ level 4 or equivalent by experience.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and knowledge in relevant professional area (Passenger Transport Operations Manager (level 4) desirable).
- Demonstrable experience and skills in vehicle/fleet & people management.
- Demonstrate strong, adaptable leadership skills in dealing with a wide range of staff and stakeholders.
- A proven track record of managing a large team effectively, including experience managing HR issues, such as new starters and leavers, sick/maternity leave, early retirement, behavioral, disciplinaries and dispute resolution.
- Demonstrable experience and skills in route planning, vehicle and driver resource allocation in line with legislation.
- The ability to react calmly and independently to quickly changing operational situations to ensure the continuation of the service.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent IT skills, with ability to find ‘digital-first’ solutions to technical issues and delivering continuous improvement.
- Holder of a valid driving license with Category D1 entitlement. The applicant will be required to hold a pass certificate for the ECC minibus assessment before being awarded the post.
