What you'll do:

As an Underwriter at Aspen, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our insurance portfolio. Underwriting Casualty book based in the UK Broad book with both conventional and non-conventional. Your primary responsibility will be to underwrite business in line with our strategic business plan, ensuring profitability for Aspen. You will be expected to adhere strictly to all legal and regulatory requirements during your underwriting activities. A key part of your role will involve building strong relationships with various stakeholders - from customers and brokers to business partners and colleagues. You will also be tasked with reviewing our portfolio regularly to ensure we are making steady progress towards our business objectives. Furthermore, you will negotiate rates, terms, and conditions for both existing and new businesses while maintaining strict compliance with internal and external regulations.

  • Contribute to the delivery of the divisional business plan through strategic decision-making
  • Promote the department, division, and company as a whole to maximise brand leverage
  • Perform underwriting activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure accurate recording and measurement of insurance risks, including delegated underwriting authorities (DUA's)
  • Establish, develop and strengthen relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners and colleagues
  • Participate in the review and analysis of the portfolio to identify progress towards business objectives
  • Negotiate rates, terms and conditions for existing and new business while ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations



What you bring:

The ideal candidate for this Underwriter position brings a wealth of experience from within the insurance industry, particularly within Employer's Liability and Public Liability specialised or complex underwriting areas. Possesses strong relationships with customers or brokers which has been nurtured over the years. Proficient in using risk profiling and pricing tools, as well as loss models. Interpersonal and communication skills are top-notch, enabling her to build and maintain strong relationships with various stakeholders. Despite conflicting priorities, able to manage tasks effectively to meet deadlines. Lastly, is a a data-driven decision maker, utilising strong analytical skills to make informed decisions.

  • Professional qualification (CII) or substantial experience within the insurance industry
  • Experience writing UK Casualty Business
  • Strong customer/broker relationships
  • Proficiency in using risk profiling and pricing tools and loss models
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities effectively to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical skills with a focus on data-driven decision making
