Purpose Of Position (Summary)
The Wash and Dry role is responsible for the cleaning of all dirty laundry according to its contamination. The role also includes the drying both in the tumble dryers and air drying on rails. The final part is to “take off” correctly and get ready for the next team. The role is integral to the correct start of the process, this is the standard we expect to contribute to the overall MSA customer experience. Working alongside your other service colleagues, so that collectively the laundry is returned to brigades within the agreed 7-day turnaround objective.

Tasks will be performed in a safe environment, actively participating into MSA’s safety values and culture. The expectation is for all associates to always adhere to all MSA’s safety requirements.
Position Title: Wash/Dry Position
Department : Service
Location: Yate Service Centre
Pay: £12.71 per hour plus 17.5% shift Allowance
Shift/Hours: 1st shift - 14.00 - 22.00 Monday - Friday
Required: Full clean driving license
Responsibilities
- Load dirty laundry into the washing machines following quantity guidelines
- Set correct wash programme
- Record times on Washing Log sheet
- Unload finished washing machines in a timely manner and transfer to dryers and set correct dryer programme
- Tag gloves with its correct ticket and ensure garment will dry evenly on rail
- Organise drying rails by station, hanging correct paperwork to end of rail and signing off responsibility paperwork
- Remove dry garments after 24 hours, place on trolley, checking off 2-way check, paperwork, to garment. You are responsible for finding the gloves and Hi Viz garments on the batch paperwork and bring all together.
- Place clean laundry trolleys into the inspection waiting area in day order
- Understand the 7-day turnaround process goal and the day order of work
- Always escalate issues that prevent you from achieving the 7-day turnaround goal to a supervisor
- Be prepared to move sections and complete other work when needed, that you have been trained on to increase productivity or efficiency.
- Take part in a weekly housekeeping check /tidy up/ and cleaning exercise in your work area
- Ensure desks and work areas are clutter free and clean
- Ensure all equipment used is according to the training given and the specific requirements of the machines being used.
- Complete “Near Hits” for all unsafe acts, resolving if you can, and escalate to the supervisor
- Occasional driving to fire stations to cover OTR’s up until 17:00 hrs
- Securely locking up of the premises once shift has finished
KPI’s
- Incorrect ticket, or no ticket attached to garment
- Daily cleaning filter log audit
- Weekly cleaning log audit
- Washing Log sheet audit
- Day order for inspection team
- Mistakes or errors picked up throughout the process by another team
- Maximum of 4 errors a month on tracked sheet
- Customer complaints
- A minimum of one near hit a month
Qualifications
Required:
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Sound decision-making skills
- Proper handling of clean and dirty garments to avoid cross-contamination
- Ability to wash garments appropriately based on their level of contamination
- Proficient in manual handling techniques
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritize tasks appropriately
- Strong communication skills within the peer group
- Acts as a positive role model to others
- Capable of completing all necessary paperwork within the section
Preferred:
- Previous experience in a similar working environment
