Are you an organised and customer-focused individual with a passion for waste management and environmental sustainability? West Berkshire Council is seeking a Waste Service Assistant to join our Climate Change Service, providing essential support to our waste and recycling services.
The Role
Responsibilities
As a Waste Service Assistant, you will act as a key point of contact for our residents, handling enquiries and providing information regarding waste, recycling, and street cleansing services. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Responding to customer enquiries via phone, email, and in person
- Providing administrative support to the Senior Waste Officer and Waste Officers
- Assisting with the implementation of waste minimisation and recycling initiatives
- Processing requests for service, such as new bin deliveries, missed collections, and bulky waste collections
- Maintaining accurate records and databases
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with residents and colleagues
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks
- Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping
- Problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle customer complaints and enquiries
- A positive and proactive attitude towards waste management and environmental sustainability
While experience in a similar role would be advantageous, it is not essential. A willingness to learn and a passion for providing excellent customer service are key.
Please note this role is fixed term for 6 months from date of employment – Time limited project
