Job Purpose
The primary objective of this role is to uphold the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999. This entails conducting thorough inspections of primarily non-household premises to ensure adherence to these regulations, both proactively and reactively, based on the contamination risk to the water distribution network. Role holders are recognised as subject matter experts in regulatory compliance and enforcement, playing a pivotal role in stakeholder engagement and education.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Prevent waste, misuse, and contamination of drinking water supplies by ensuring accurate measurement and protecting water systems connected to the company’s distribution network.
- Carry out both planned and reactive inspections of plumbing and water usage systems to ensure compliance with the Water Fittings Regulations (WFR).
- Communicate effectively with customers regarding non-compliance issues, outlining required actions, priorities, and agreed timescales for resolution.
- Manage and schedule a variety of inspections and audits, prioritising tasks efficiently. Support enforcement actions and prosecutions in collaboration with technical teams.
- Act as a subject matter expert on WFR, providing technical guidance, reviewing complex drawings, engaging stakeholders through education, and reporting accurate regulatory data.
Technical Skills & Experience
- In-depth knowledge and practical application of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999.
- Ability to convey complex information clearly and appropriately to a range of audiences.
- Strong negotiation, influencing, and resilience skills to ensure customer compliance and resolve regulatory breaches.
- Highly organised and self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently under changing deadlines.
- Skilled in planning site visits, balancing workloads, and using company IT systems and Microsoft Office applications effectively.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
- Plumbing accreditation: City and Guilds or equivalent NVQ level.
Desirable
- Installation experience: Experience in domestic or commercial plumbing, gas fitting, or heating engineering.
A full UK Driving Licence is required to carry out this role.
