Job Introduction

We’re looking for a passionate and experienced Wellbeing Lead to join our Occupational Health and Wellbeing team at National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) on a 12-month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave.

You’ll play a key role in driving our health and wellbeing agenda—supporting the design, delivery and evaluation of impactful programmes that help all colleagues thrive. With a sharp focus on strategic delivery and operational execution, you’ll work closely with our Head of Occupational Health and Wellbeing to embed a culture of care, resilience and performance across the organisation.

As our subject matter expert in wellbeing, you’ll act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and frontline teams alike—shaping initiatives, delivering campaigns, and championing best practice both internally and externally.

The role can be based at any depot within our licence areas of East Midlands, West Midlands, South West or Wales. We offer hybrid working of 1-2 days in the office/depot and remainder from home. Travel within all of our licence areas will be needed.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support the Head of Occupational Health and Wellbeing in the design, delivery and ongoing evolution of NGED’s Wellbeing Strategy, aligned with Group direction.
  • Develop and implement targeted wellbeing programmes and campaigns that address business risk, drive engagement, and deliver measurable improvements in health and well being.
  • Coordinate the annual calendar of wellbeing activity—aligning with wider Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) priorities, and ensuring initiatives are planned, promoted, and evaluated effectively.
  • Lead the development of wellbeing-related policy, guidance and standards to ensure consistency, relevance, and compliance.
  • Work collaboratively with NGED’s Engagement, Comms and SHE teams to design impactful communications and engagement plans, increasing awareness and take-up of our wellbeing offer.
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across all levels of NGED and Group, acting as the main point of contact for wellbeing matters.
  • Partner with third-party vendors and providers to ensure our services are high quality, relevant, and value for money.
  • Provide meaningful insight from data—developing wellbeing dashboards and performance measures that inform decision-making and improve outcomes.
  • Equip leaders with the skills, confidence, and tools to support colleague wellbeing as part of everyday management.
  • Stay connected to external networks and developments in workplace health, ensuring NGED remains ahead of the curve in our approach.

Ideal Candidate

  • A strong track record in designing and delivering workplace wellbeing programmes that have achieved measurable impact.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement across multiple levels, including with senior leaders, operational teams, and external partners.
  • Confident in leading campaigns and creating communication materials that inform, engage, and drive behaviour change.
  • Comfortable using data to inform strategy and continuously improve delivery.
  • Experienced in working with third-party vendors, including procurement, contract management, and evaluation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence, challenge, and collaborate effectively.
  • Resilient, self-motivated, and able to manage priorities across a fast-paced, complex environment.
  • A recognised qualification in a health-related field (e.g. degree, NVQ, Masters) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and digital communication tools.

This is a great opportunity to join a business that genuinely values the wellbeing of its people. We’re at an exciting point, with a clear direction and strong leadership focused on building a supportive and resilient workplace.

If you're ready to bring your skills, ideas, and energy to a role where you can have a meaningful impact, we’d love to hear from you.
